Was looking at the Tamron SP 15-30mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 on B&H but the site says the EF mount is discontinued (not the Nikon though). I called Tamron in NY and the woman was unaware of this and asked me to hold on. When she back on the phone she said indeed it has been discontinued but she didn't know why. I've been trying to get more info as to why without success...does anyone on UHH know why? Seems odd they would discontinue one mount but not the other.

Maybe not selling enough in that mount to make it worthwhile? I’m sure if you want that lens you’ll be able to find an excellent used one and save a chunk. If you really want new and it’s pretty recently been discontinued you can likely find one in stock somewhere. All the brick & mortar stores I know also have an online presence and will do mail order.

"Why" seems like a riddle unworthy of much effort. One can just assume Canon isn't making new EOS DLSRs with an EF mount. Assume third-party makers will make the same decision too for their compatible equipment.

I have asked that question to the Tamron corporation representative and was told that right now they are concentrating on lens for mirror-less camera's. If you look at their new lens line up you will notice they are ALL for Sony mirror-less and at this time nothing else. I don't know maybe they can only develop lens for one brand at a time.

Tamron has discontinued a number of the Canon EF mount lenses.

I think Tamron has jumped the gun a bit, but are simply taking Canon's word that they are phasing out the DSLR system. Canon themselves have discontinued a number of EF and EF-S lenses.

If you shop around you can probably find a lightly used copy of that lens... There are a lot of EF lenses and Canon DSLRs on the used market now, as people are switching to the R-series mirrorless and RF mount lenses.

So far Tamron doesn't have lenses for the new Canon RF-mount mirrorless. No doubt they're working on them, as are Sigma and Tokina... all three of who should all be a bit embarrassed that Yongnuo and Viltrox have already managed to produce some AF lenses for the RF mount.

Take a look at Canon EF lens that show availability. Canon is making the move to RF lens where they have zero competition from Tamron, Tokina, and Sigma. Used prices are going up as demand for EF lens.

B&H regularly, and erroneously, posts items as "discontinued" when in fact they are simply out of stock on that item. It has been a source of confusion for years yet the continue the practice.

True, but this was Tamron that said it’s been discontinued.

That is the A012 model ( or G1 as some call it).
The A041, "G2" model is current at Tamron and has not been discontinued.
Big difference between the two versions. And it is B&H making the discontinued claim, NOT Tamron. You could easily check Tamrons website yourself to obtain the real info.

Not a big deal to me since I don’t shoot Canon and I’m not in the market. The OP stated that it showed as discontinued at B&H. They then called Tamron and Tamron confirmed it is discontinued. I did check the Tamron USA website and there is no mention of that lens. There are two wide zooms listed, 11-20 f/2.8 and 17-28 f/2.8. I did find a reference on the Tamron Jp site, but when you clicked the link as soon as the page loaded it the image switched to the 17-35 f/2.7-4 which also isn’t on the USA site.
