I think the chief was called Thunder Thud

Chief Featherman preceeded Thunderthud on the show. Interestingly, The Thunderthud actor had a mustache which could not be fully disguised by makeup. Another feature of the show was the daily Olde Time Movie, starring such legends as Hulda Honowinkle and Fatty Arbuckle.

The set design originally was in a polka-dotted circus motif, but it later changed to a more general setting in Doodyville.

I started watching the show on the old RCA TV in 1948 at the age of 5. I had younger siblings who watched it until the mid-to- late 50s.

Thanks.
I rarely watched Howdy Doody.
Watched Captain Kangaroo a lot.
Gene London (Local to Philly) with Crusader Rabbit (I think) and others.
Fractured Fairy Tales was another I liked.

We also watched Captain Video and his video rangers … blasting off with him from our bunk beds. And of course I begged my mother to buy tons of cereal boxes so we could send away for our Captain Video rings.

My Dad worked at RCA in Camden, NJ and built a TV - we were among the first to have one in the neighborhood. I don't remember much; but I do remember the song. The other day for some bizarre reason my memory brought back Farfel the dog - I know it was on the NESTLE'S commercial and may have been one of the shows sponsor.

Lucky you! I never even gave that a thought.

Wouldn't it have been funny to see the set entirely B&W?

I loved her short fringed dress! I was a guest contestant on the Rootie Kazootie show in the same era.

Clarabell later gained millions of children followers when he became Captain Kangaroo.

Farfel was the dog companion to Jimmy Nelson and the puppet Danny O'Day. I remember his commercials on Space Patrol.

Chief OORAGNAK comes to mind. Backwards it was Kangaroo. Maybe another show? Mr. Bluster was Phineus T. Bluster. I saw this show in the late 40's on our first TV. It was a Philco with a 12 inch circular screen.

Remembering “Plunk your magic twanger, Froggy! Hi ya, kids. Hi ya, hi ya!” ?
Andy Devine, the Andy Show - late 50s.
Needless to say, all kinds of connotations about just what Froggy’s “twanger” was, especially among early adolescent boys. 😉

Remembering the show, Froggy lived in a old grandfather clock. When Froggy appeared he jumped from the innards of the clock, the spring hit one of the bells and made the sound, bong. I also remember the cats name "Midnight" who could pronounce the word "nice" in a cat tone. I still use the term "flub-a-dub" when referring to someone who messed something up. I still remember the show, "Captain Video, and the Video Rangers" including Tobar, the robot. I even had a Captain Video helmet. Captain Video was often mentioned by the character "Norton" on the old "Honeymooners".

So did I. We had to leave when Clarabell came on stage and my sister wouldn't stop crying. I guess she was afraid of clowns.

I thought fear of clowns was a recent fad.
