Remember this character from a TV show? I knew the name right away.

I never watched the show that the character was in, so I had to Google it to find the correct name.

That was a very popular kids' show in the 1950s. They had the "Peanut Gallery."

The Howdy Doody Show, with Buffalo Bob, Chief Thunderthud, Princess SummerFallWinterSpring, Clarabell The Clown, and the Peanut Gallery.

Bob Keeshan was Clarabell, and he went on to host his own long-running show, Captain Kangaroo.

Thanks.
I rarely watched Howdy Doody.
Watched Captain Kangaroo a lot.
Gene London (Local to Philly) with Crusader Rabbit (I think) and others.
Fractured Fairy Tales was another I liked.

It was great! For a five-year-old.

Don't forget Dilly Dally, Mr. Bluster, The Inspector, Chief Featherman, and Flub-a-Dub.

I remember Clarabell and Chief Thunderthud along with the lead "character" and Buffalo Bob. I rarely watched the show as a kid because even at 6 years old, I remember thinking a puppet lamely dangling off strings was, well, stupid.

I sat in that Peanut Gallery when I was six years old. The show was in black and white but the set was painted in full color.

Remembering “Plunk your magic twanger, Froggy! Hi ya, kids. Hi ya, hi ya!” ?
Andy Devine, the Andy Show - late 50s.
Needless to say, all kinds of connotations about just what Froggy’s “twanger” was, especially among early adolescent boys. 😉
