An informative spot is the dinosaur loop adjacent to Red Rock Canyon. Feds cant advertise, the only sign I've seen on I70 says something like "Archeological Point of Interest". Lots of tracks.
A lot depends on what your interests are. There are 2 air museums in that region--one in Colorado Springs (Peterson Air and Space Museum) and another outside of Pueblo (Weisbrod Air Museum). Also in Colorado Springs are the USAF Academy and a nearby Museum of Mining and Industry (they give demonstrations of big steam engines). The Garden of the Gods has been mentioned. It's not too far over west to Avon or Vail (there's a Gondola ride at Vail). And a little farther is Leadville, which has a nice Mining Museum and a train ride. My photos of my time on that trip are here:

Depending on when you go to Rocky Mountain National Park, you may need a Timed Entry Ticket. Tickets are required starting May 22nd, if you plan on going on the Bear Corridor between 5:00am and 6:00pm or in the rest of the park between the hours of 9:00am and 3:00pm. Before and after those times, no ticket is required. The website to get a ticket is at:
https://www.recreation.gov/timed-entry/10086910. There are also certain booking windows which means the tickets for a certain month open up at a certain time. For example on June 1st at 10:00am MDT tickets open up for any remaining days in July and the full month of August.
NOTE: The timed entry is in addition to the normal entry pass required to enter a national park.
Hop a plane. Go to Vegas. See a show. Win some money so you can come back and spend more than two days taking pictures!!
It all looks so close on the map... LOL - stay close to Denver and the Pikes peak region, or extend your itinerary.
