Hi
I will be going to denver and will have about 2 days to wander around. I am already planning to got to estes park and nat'l rockies. I was thinking of heading down to new mexico as I have never been there before. been to utah and been to zion/canyon / arches / . I like the more adventurous trails lke angels landings, and hiked(climbed the ladder up yosemite of el capitan.) I know alot of driving will be involved.. but willing to do it. Possibly did i miss stuff in Utah??? Thanks for the assistance

Since you only have 2 days, and you're are planning on RMNP and Estes, going to New Mexico will be about 6 hours from Denver, and in the opposite direction. A very interesting area is the Great Sand Dunes NP. It's about 3 - 3.5 hrs from Denver and quite unique. You can climb the dune field (largest over 700 ft.).

There's a lot to see in the Colorado area, but you have such limited time....whatever you choose, enjoy!

Remember that Denver is the mile high city. Depending on the altitude of your departure city, and I see you’re in NY, your body may take a “hit” for 1-2 days based on the higher altitude. And the risk increases if you travel higher than Denver proper to see the sights. Headache, nausea/vomiting, loss of appetite, trouble sleeping. Drinks lots of non-alcohol fluids, prepare to add a few extra rest stops if hiking. I was in Estes Park maybe 20 years ago and it took me about a day and a half to feel normal again. Have fun, stay safe.

Right close to Denver: Red Rocks Theater, and south of Denver, but close, Roxborough Park

I'd suggest maybe going to Zimbabwe afterwards, but that's only because they give out free beer --or they did the last year I was there-- at the Coors brewery over in Golden. Otherwise, Red Rocks is nice (saw Hendrix there in --what? '69? yeah, musta been '69-- and he dedicated 'All Along The Watchtower' to the little group of us who didn't have tickets but managed to finagle our way in and caught the concert from a cave-like hole half-way up "the rocks" on stage right), and Garden Of The Gods isn't too shabby, either.

So many close things worth seeing, save NM for another time.

If you're planning to visit RMNP, I believe you will need a reservation. I recommend you check their website, as well as any other national park you might be hoping to visit.

I also recommend Buena Vista (Cottonwood Pass); Leadville; Salida; Great Sand Dunes NP; Then there is also Mount Evans Road; Pike's Peak Highway; The Million Dollar Highway; Poudre Canyon; Mesa Verde; Durango Silverton RR. You are not going to have enough time!

Estes Park should be OK as far as altitude, but if you drive over the pass in RMNP, it does get very high, so don't plan on doing any walking! Going to NM or Utah is WAY too much driving for such a short trip. Why not enjoy Denver? They have a fantastic zoo and the Museum of Natural History is pretty neat also. If you go over the high pass in RMNP, as I recall, you can swing south to pick up the interstate. On the way back into Denver you can visit the neat little town of Georgetown, and take the Georgetown Loop Steam Railroad.

Do don't say when you are going, but even in mid-May snow can be a problem at RMNL, and passed area beyond Loveland on I 70. I once skied A-Basin ~May 16, in a foot of new snow. I also was at RMNL in May and road was still closed at top. Finally, Leadville and some other areas mentioned are around 12,000 feet, some people have few issues others big problems, from my experience, being in or out of shape is not a predictor.

You could whip down to Colorado Springs—Garden of the Gods, Pikes peak and just opened What-a-burger!
