Epson used to make them - I think the 80 gb was over $700. They were never popular.

Gene is correct. I have one model, the Epson P-3000.

Key Features
-Large 4-inch screen with new Epson Photo Fine Ultra technology provides large, high-resolution, high-quality LCD
to view and share images
-Worlds first 4-color filter providing a color gamut that approaches Adobe RGB
-Displays up to 30 million pixels and over 16.7 million colors
-Over 250 percent faster than predecessor
-High capacity 40GB hard disk drive
-Supports image files (JPEG, EXIF, and select RAW files), video files MPEG4, Motion JPEG, and DivX), and audio
files (MP3, AAC)
-Two built-in slots for CF and SD memory cards with many others supported via third-party adapter
-Easy-to-follow onscreen menu selections to organize files
-Ergonomic design allows for easy navigation of buttons with one hand
-PictBridge support for direct printing to select Epson printers
-High-speed USB 2.0 interface

They are available on eBay today for around $60.

There is also a later model, the S-5000 on eBay for $100 that has an 80GB hard disk drive.

I am very happy with mine for travel when I don't take a laptop.

Personally, I just carry a pocketful of memory cards. The camera has Bluetooth so can connect to Kindle Fire or Phone to see any before getting to a laptop.

Not sure if there is such a thing, but I am looking for a portable hard drive I can download photos to with a small LED without having to be connected to a computer or phone. Any help will be appreciated.

Not exactly what you are looking for. If you have an android phone, you can do the following youtube video.

I have two of them, both made by Sanyo. Hyperdrive colorspace and colorspace UDMA II. I believe they are no longer made. I do not know if the older ones are supported any more.

The GNARbox 2 is a version but lacks the screen to view the images.

Here is one, but I know nothing about it.

The good ones are expensive. Most who want to spend this amount, now buy a small laptop or tablet or similar device.

Well, he asked for a "viewable hard drive". I would imagine you could store a lot of pictures on one of the devices.

You don’t store photos on them. You view photos that are stored on a card. Assuming you have a large enough card to store all of your photos on you’d still have the problem of getting them from the camera card to the frame card.

The GNARbox for which I gave a link earlier in the thread, has 128 GB capacity for storage and can be wirelessly linked to a smartphone for viewing and editing.

Thanks for your comment. I have not taken any sort of back up system with me when on a photo trip, but the one I will be on in May does request that you bring back up storage. I doubt if I will, but just wondering what might be out there.

Laptops. You don't need to carry it around with you; just download to it when you get back to where ever you are staying. This works for me, and I have never lost a photo using it. Plus, you have an adequate screen to see whether you need to go back and re-do.

‘ me to’ makes them up to 2 TB SSD with built in card readers and a small screen
Versatile but expensive. Others make them that utilize a smart phone for viewing.

Thank you all for your comments. I think it was more of a suggestion than a requirement. I have used this company before with great results in photos. Just thought I would see if there was something out there that might work for me. No Laptop, no smart phone, still use a checkbook, I guess I am one of the last dinosaurs.

With all the suggestions here, the user who posted the initial question has lots of tings to search for on Google and Amazon. I'll add one more. Check out kids Kindle Fire tablets.

They have 16 or 32 GB storage to begin with and a couple of the models can have up to 1 TB storage. The display is 7: or larger with a rugged case and one has a rugged carrying case. Just an idea. --Richard

Too slow. When cards became bigger and bigger it became a real problem
