Not sure if there is such a thing, but I am looking for a portable hard drive I can download photos to with a small LED without having to be connected to a computer or phone. Any help will be appreciated.

Viewable? LED?
I believe there are portable drives that will accept, maybe SDHC cards, with a light that indicates when the copy is finished. But you cannot "view" the images on the drive alone.

Thanks for your comment. I have not taken any sort of back up system with me when on a photo trip, but the one I will be on in May does request that you bring back up storage. I doubt if I will, but just wondering what might be out there.

There are "photo frames" which would suit you well. My wife currently has such on her wall. You slip a memory card in a slot and it will display the photos. This one must be 10 years old so I am sure there are better stuff out there now.

An example:

Several companies used to make portable hard drives with LED screens for the purpose you describe, but apparently they are no longer made.

B&H has a product with SD slot and USB ports that will load photos without a computer, and includes an app to wirelessly connect to your smartphone for viewing and editing:

For backing up files while on a trip???
More like after the fact at home for viewing.

Well, he asked for a "viewable hard drive". I would imagine you could store a lot of pictures on one of the devices.

I personally would not consider a picture fame a hard drive.

Epson used to make them - I think the 80 gb was over $700. They were never popular.

Great... what does it matter as long as it hold images? An SD card isn't a hard drive either but makes for a good backup.

Haha.

Only to the guy asking about "hard drives" as opposed to simply "someplace to store them".
Can use mag tape also, however slow.

If I ask about "A", I don't anticipate a discussion about "B" or "C".
But it happens.....

Where else can one store images?

When you say "LED" I presume you mean a small screen where you can see the files?

I don't know of any but that is a very interesting idea.

I believe thaz called a tablet. Some are not much bigger than a phone. Usually have a single port so youd need a card reader and possibly an adapter.
