I only saw the airport of St John at night, making an emergency landing. On board a flight from LAX on way to Amsterdam , with stop in Chicago. An hour out of Chicago : Is there a physician on board? An older man was slumped in his seat, blood sugar checked by neighbor and normal: we brought him to the back and laid him flat, legs up, oxygen applied. (I am a neonatologist, another nurse helping was a neonatal nurse :). He awoke and was interviewed. Tried to take him back to his seat, but slumped and faded again. The pilot came checking to see if diversion and emergency landing was needed, as we were approaching the point to go over water for the next 5 hours. In short: in this golden hour I did not want take the responsibility to continue and recommended diversion. The St John Airport was already closed at 8 pM (it is old base for B1 bombers with light activity remaining) so special personnel was mobilized to open the airport, turn the lights on etc., call EMT personnel. By the time we landed the patient was feeling better and did not want to disembark, however the pilot - after asking me if I would take the responsibility which of course I declined - told him - within his right - : "Get off my ship" and he was taken off on a stretcher by the paramedics. I never heard how he fared , the airline gave me a bottle of wine and later a $25 dollar discount on future fares with a Thank-You note. No pictures were taken.

Years ago we visited the island. Too many places to describe. Was well worth the trip from CA.
