I have two Samsung Galaxy 5G phones. The first is a S20 and the second is the S22 Ultra that comes with a pen, or you can get the S22 without the pen. I really love the Samsung phone. Only problem I have had was that the keyboard under warranty gave me a problem and took it back to T-Mobile and exchanged it for another new boxed phone and set it up for me also. No questions asked. Have this phone as a spare if my S22 Ultra breaks down out of warranty, but I could pay an extra $10.00 per month for insurance should phone out of warranty breaks they will replace it free. This insurance covers everything that the warranty does not like if you shoud drop it and the glass breaks but you have a screen protector to cover it.

Get an iPhone. Better to connect with family than be concerned about your pride over something that happened so many years ago.

I also just recently went from Note 8 to S22 ultra. Got to have the pen!

I never have been a Apple guy yet all the ladies in the family have to have them. My 2 feelings on Apple (a third I won't share)...when it works they are great. When it doesn't work, well, just shoot me now. Hate, hate, hate.

Some fun AI on the S22 is the object eraser. Don't pixel peep and you will have a blast with it. Especially anything with sky, forest, or grass in the background...easy to rebuild.

It is just a small tad bigger and heavier, not a game changer. As far as pictures, we are planning a trip to Jackson Hole soon and I will be carrying only my new phone and a Fuji X100v. This will make me use the S22 and put it to some tests.

Best of luck on your purchase.

My wife's iPhone 13 Pro has an incredible camera system. She got a trade in deal that was good.

I’ve always gone with Android phones starting with the HTC Incredible, then Samsung S4, now Google Pixel 4a. All because I’m mentally invested in the ecosystem and don’t like Apple’s my way or the highway philosophy. Not to mention that Apple doesn’t seem to trust their users to make decisions on use of their products. Androids imho encourage cross platform hardware and software compatibility, whereas Apple is only now starting to consider things like UPS-C connectors. And then there’s the issue of Apple’s perpetuating “you’re not cool unless you’re an Apple user” mentality on kids and young adults.

I too use the Note8 and have been very happy with it. I would not fear to match my picture quality with the apple phones. Dr. Nikon , a member here, just took delivery of the Samsung S22 Ultra which sports what has to be the best available camera. It has a front 40mp camera and can also do 80 and 108mp shots with the back. Like our current cameras you still get a lot more onboard storage than Apple with the ability to add significantly more using a card. When mine goes I do not see myself returning to apple, though I have in the past owned several of them. I'm now a Samsung man. Hope I've given you some ideas. Good luck.

Small correction. The S22 series doesn't have any SD card slots

Yup Samsung copied Apple eliminated the card slot and user replaceable battery. That way people will have to buy new phones.

I just upgraded from a Samsung s9+ to the Samsung S22 Ultra. Absolutely love it. I didn' think I would use the spen but am finding it useful but if you want a phone with a really good camera you can't go wrong. Its night mode is absolutely fantastic. Its macro, 1x,3x and 10x telephoto are all excellent. Has pro mode and expert pro mode (16 bit raw). I have nothing against Apple, its latest phone is also really really good. Search out youtube videos to see the comparisons.

My Samsung Note8 is finally giving up the ghost. The charging connector doesn't work (yes, I've cleaned it) and the battery life is getting intolerable.

I quit Apple when they refused to repair my iPhone6 Plus that developed iPhone touch disease (a bad batch of system boards) because I had the battery replaced at uBreakIFix. I swore I'd never go back, but because my whole family carries iPhones I'm left out of sharing family stuff easily.

I want the best camera possible for photos and video and I'm trying to decide between the iPhone 13 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.

Any opinions?

I consider cell phones to be a disposable commodity item so I buy a cheap android phone. I ask little of it and it makes occasional phone calls and sends a few text messages. I have a few photo apps on my android tablet that are useful and could be used at more inconvenience on the phone.

Apple's standard response to repair is: buy a new phone and your data is gone. Lou Rossman in NYC provides ethical repair of Apple products ( https://www.rossmanngroup.com/) BTW Samsung is not a lot better.

If you want a phone with a "decent" camera buy one with a suitable camera or buy the cheapest phone that meets your needs. I almost don't care if my phone has a camera or not.

I went with S22 Ultra, pricey but just so many things going for it! Every other phone I've owned has been an Apple but not this time.

Rather than argue Android vs Apple vs Google smartphones, just buy what is suitable for your needs. Not everyone needs a smartphone if all they need is a device to make phone calls and text. If your needs are more complex and you need a portable super computer, then get the smartphone that has the apps most useful to your needs. All devices have similar apps out of the box or you can download the apps you find most useful. At the same price point, most phones have the same capabilities, and then the decision comes down as to whether or not you want your phone to seamlessly connect to your other devices or to easily connect with your family.
That being said, I have used iphones since the model 5, and have never had issues. I upgrade my phone every two years to take advantage of longer battery life, more memory, faster processor, better screens and better photo capabilities.

Not about that… Sealing the phone is about water and dust resistance. WiFi, Bluetooth, and 5G take care of getting signals in and out.

AND they want to sell wireless headphones and speakers…

Any way Apple is consider selling phones on a subscription model. I am glad I don't own a smart phone.

Why are you glad you don't own a smartphone? I understand someone not needing or wanting a smartphone. I can even stretch that to understand not wanting a phone at all (even though with the demise of pay phones I have a tough time with that one!) But I don't understand someone being glad not to own one.
