I like watching horror movies. They're simple, no-thought-required entertainment, and I often find myself laughing at them. The characters do the stupidest things. There's a noise in the woods at night, so a girl wearing almost nothing goes walking out into the woods to investigate. People stand watching rather than running away. You know right at the beginning that the monster is going to win, and no one will survive, so it's not a surprise when there isn't a happy ending. I am somewhat selective in what I watch, but horror movies let me relax and get a laugh or two. How about you?
The biggest money-maker is the adventure movie, whatever that is. They made $164 billion vs $18 billion for horror through the 2010s.

Thanks for bringing up a terrific topic Jerry. The list is endless. But you must also remember when a film was released. We sre very fortunate to have seen incredible special effects in films.
In 1933 for example King Kong was released with special effects that were heart stopping for the time. It was also only 5 years into "talkies".

To get to their darkroom.

About the scariest film for me was: The Beast With 5 Fingers. Now, that was scary! I had nightmares for years.

If you want a good laugh watch Motel Hell. My kids watched it with me about 35 years ago when they were pretty little and still bring it up to me at times. We still laugh about it every time I go to visit them in the mental hospital!

How about "Plan 9 From Outer Space?" Voted the worst movie ever made
Another “worst one” was Attack of the killer Tomatoes.

No, you are wrong. At least one female and one male actor will survive to tell the tale...LOL.
But they will be bloodied!

The anthem is worthwhile...

Some of those 1950 sci-fi movies lacked much technical expertise.
Speaking of which. I always wondered why the occupants inside the space ship always bounced around when being attacked, and yet, everything around them remained unmoved, although unanchored.
(Long live Buster Crabbe!)
We all laugh at the idiocy of most horror movies but it's the largest genre of them all. My son collects horror movies (including foreign horror movies) and not only does he have over two thousand titles, but there are far more new horror moves each year than romance, mystery, sci fi, etc. They're cheap to produce and, as with Ed Wood's Plan 9 from Outer Space, even the worst release easily attains cult status.
I like horror movies but to me the king is the cheap science fiction movies that came out in the 50's and 60's. The Blob, Day of the Triffids, The Thing, Caltiki, the Imortal God. The things that Elvira would be showing.

I think "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" was worse, Mr Spock.
