I've selected an image with the "smart brush tool" PSE11 and I want to delete the background. All the itemms in <EDIT> are greyed out. Can enyone tell me how to delete the background. Thanks Thanks Thanks.

I suggest your topic heading should have been - "Help with smart brush tool in PSE 11."

Then, I would not have needlessly stopped by.

Took a lot out of your day, didn't it.

All the advice given is good. Since I try to go too quickly many times, my expereice, regardless where you are in PSE11, when all selections are greyed out, I have left some type of editing or selection box open, such as putting in a percentage for sharpening an image or whatever. It always turns out to be something silly I simply need to close. Called a human error from "ready, shoot, aim".

Hi! Love your doggie. I have two pups and I know how you feel about your baby!

I have done a quick selection and it is on a transparent background. Later I will try putting her on some grass for you.

I use CS5 but I am sure there are similar methods in Elements. As Captain J said, use Command J for a Mac or Ctrl J for a PC. But before you do that, there is something in the CS series that is called "refine edge". If you don't know where it is in Elements, Google it. You will find that to be an invaluable tool.

So after I selected your girl with the selection tool, I refined the edge. Then if I had overdone it, I used the 'History Brush' to bring some of the background back. Then hit Command J (I have a Mac). And Voila! There she is.

Do some research on the selection tool, refine edge and history tools. They are simple and with practice, it will become easy and you will find many uses for them

Thank you for a terrific job. I know selecting, is a learning process and believe me, I'm trying. My hands are getting a little bit shaky, but I will persevere.

I don't see why you want the tiles out nor do I understand why it was labelled as URGENT. I think you could probably get a much better photo of your dog as well. Then again it is your dog and your photo to do what you wish. You really need to get practicing and learning about photo editing so that you can achieve the results you are looking for. I know for myself that I feel awesome when I get the job done myself rather than if somebody just does it for me. UTube is awesome as well as this...

Hi Queen Chatty, The reason I made it "urgent" was that I was working in the PSE program , and did not want to close it as I had spent so much time in the selection process. Thanks for the links.
