I've done a few of those drives, Rude Dog and you never forget them. Did a 180 on an almost vertical wall in Idaho in an old military jeep...when we got down I had to change my pants. Those old jeeps had a level gauge on the dash and it was pegged !!

Another favorite stop of ours in C.N.P. is the Shafer Trail Overlook. Shafer Trail was named after the Shafer family who were Mormon pioneer settlers. John "Sog" Shafer used this trail to move cattle from summer pastures on the mesa top (now C.N.P.) to winter ground on the White Rim sandstone several rock layers down into the canyon. We always take the time to hike down to the Overlook and look in amazement at how this road/trail was constructed. In the past I've driven sections of the Shafer Trail and it is quite a thrill that includes beautiful scenes and stunning views. Hope these images do the trail justice...

Lots of people are flat landers and that kind of driving is completely new to them! I've driven the Shafer Trail with visitors and it was a "come to Jesus" experience for them. Same with the road that goes down to Mineral Bottom on the Green River north west of Moab.
Great photos BTW, Jim!
Your comment reminds me of how the donkeys on the trail down into the Grand Canyon maneuver around some of the tight switchbacks while the jack asses atop the donkeys fear for their lives.

This past summer my wife and I drove the entire trail from Gulf the Park to Moab. It was quite the drive. Thanks for taking back there again.
A wonderful set. Thanks for sharing.
