DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK

All the other users are happy with theirs.

More significantly, I went to your profile and looked at your threads for about six months back. Evidently you're not worth attempts at helping you ... just random anger and cluelessness. Anyone reading that stuff will quickly learn to give up on trying to help you.

Reading your threads, no puzzle at all why Sony brushes you off, just like I'm doing, and recommending it to others. They should all read your threads and acoarst make up their own minds.

Yes, I read cony25's threads ......

Says somebody that hides under the name of "user id" You are clueless of what you are saying.
You are talking without having information, you don't even know what you are talking about.

If you are not going to help, please stay quiet. I don't need your condescending opinion.

What's the difference between hiding behind the name "User ID" versus "cony25"?

I am sorry to hear about your problems with your Sony A7 III, and I hope that you will find a solution. I have owned my Sony A7 III for four years now and have used it a lot without any problems. What is interesting to see how posts like this on brings out the Sony haters in full force. While not flawless, the A7 III is an amazing camera.

And I really recommend for others to read it and make up their own minds about attempting to help you.

Is there a sony representative in this blog? It's been so frustrating, a 2500.00 lasting a year and a half.

What a piece of crap.

I understand that you are angry at your malfunctioning camera. Looks like it isn't that old, either. I learned a lesson a long time ago when the same thing happened to me. (1) Never purchase a high piece of equipment without also purchasing a protection insurance plan. Costly? Yes. Worth it in the long run for me...yes. (2) As others have said, use a credit card that extends a warranty. You just never know when something catastrophic will occur unless you're psychic. If you make a lot of your from your photography you might already have some sort of insurance. Some do, some don't. (3) Always take notes when talking to companies over the phone. You really can't argue against well taken notes on who you talked to, when you talked to them and what they told you. (4) You must understand that companies owe you absolutely NOTHING after the warranty has come and gone. Seems nice that the first person you called was sympathetic to you situation enough to honor a warranty after the fact...but, without information on who you talked to, you are sol.

I know this sounds scathing...or you may take it as such, however, never assume your high dollar equipment is ever entitled to unoffered extended warranties because you've spent thousands on any name brand camera gear. If you can afford the stuff, the company also assumes you know the drill. It doesn't seem right to pay for equipment on a wing-and-a-thread and hope to God you don't trip and drop said equipment on the pavement, out a window or in a pond...I've seen the videos on the web.

Anyway, I think your fellow UHHs have given great advice on how you should proceed. I've done the same thing and regretted not having insurance when I had the chance. Expensive? YES... Worth it? (speaking for myself) YES!

Good Luck!

I bought this camera about 1.5 years ago at B&H, thinking that it would be a great camera.
I have only used it for events. I keep it very secure when not in use, and I take care of it like a baby, and this is applicable to all of my equipment.

About 30 days ago, I started hearing a click-click sound inside. I turned if off, then back on, removed the battery, then it would work for 20 minutes and the clicking sound started again. Then the screen would go black and would only focus on very bright lights. I would restart it, again to 20 minutes of work.
I called sony, they told me to reboot it for 30 seconds and update the software, I did.

The same thing happened again. I am so frustrated.
I called sony again, they will not honor the warranty because it's past the year (just a couple of months).

The first time I called they said they would do an exception and cover it, then when I called again the Filipino lady that answered said that they will not cover it.

She would not give me the number to public relations and she was closed-minded and did not really know anything other than saying no.

I am so frustrated, I paid about 2500.00 for this camera, and now it's a piece of junk.

Please help! Anybody with a similar experience?
I have NEVER had this experience with my CANON cameras!!

Looks like the problem isn’t camera repair. You’re just upset Sony won’t do it for free.

One bad apple does not condemn the grove. I was lucky to purchase at a very low price a "funky" Sony A-65; on again off again occasional problems. Clue, the previous owner had used USB to download photos and charge the battery. She never removed the battery or SD. I cleaned all the contacts purchased the too often condemned as unholy aftermarket batteries. The revived Sony A65 has operated fine for 3+ years.

The law suite mentioned by cony25 is interesting... how does it compare to other camera companies. Sony has a fine reputation for advancement in camera design. We of course sympathize with Cony25, his personal rant justified on a singular basis, not universal berating of the Sony brand name.

If you purchased the camera with a credit card, many companies (American Express) will double the manufacture’s warranty as a matter of policy. May be worth a call.

Sometimes the piece of mind is worth a little extra $$. I rarely buy them myself (extended warranties), but if I was buying a brand new "electronic anything" that cost greater than $1,000.00, I would certainly consider it (my wife would say YES, buy it). I have seen them offered for some used gear as well, but have taken my chances...so far so good.

Concerning camera body failures - my experience so far with digital:

I have some Sony bodies, everyone was bought used; A300, A37, A58, Nex-6/Nex-5n, A6000......and am happy to report no failures ever with any of them (hopefully I'm not jinxing my little world), nor with any of the native lenses - and I have a lot of older Minolta lenses and one body that all still work.

Nikon D80 shutter mechanism failure, long after warranty exp. - display/shelf queen now. D90 bought with other gear lot - viewfinder LED readout was dead when I got it, but otherwise the camera still works like and looks new (and since you can still tell when focus is captured, it is actually less distracting for composition with that data line missing!!). D7100 that lost 1st card slot before I got it (somewhere around 25K clicks), but I think someone/something got in there and bent a pin...second slot has performed as it should for another 15-20K clicks, I still use it very often. No issues with another D90, and D7200 has performed with excellence since bought as refurb with 60 clicks. Several superzooms L830/L840 and one other (model number slips my mind, no longer have it) all worked well.

3 Fuji superzooms, all still work like new. 3 canons, 2 DSLRs and a pocket P&S, P&S can't keep it's date correct, but still shoots just fine, SL-1 and XSi still look/work like new.

I share this only to show that any brand can have issues, some big, some small.

So sorry for your problem with this otherwise great camera. Personally, I would get it fixed and then trade it for a different model. You might get some relief via the class action suit but the lawyers will get the bulk of the reward.
