Before you do anything, check out the photo editing software that comes with Windows 7--specifically, Windows Live Photo Gallery and Windows Office Picture Picture Manager (The latter , if you have MS Office).

Either program may be all that you need

I've never used "picture it" but you may want to check out picnik.com. It has all of those things(frames and fun clip art) and it's really cheap. Good luck:)

I recently got the trial version for PS Elements 10 and i have to say its confusing me quite a bit whereas I have Lightroom 3.5 and its much easier to use. Another thing you might try is going to youtube for how to vids because a lot of people put the tutorials up there and are usually quite helpful. Just my two cents :)

I have always had problems with backward compatibility. PS requires a bit too much for my needs, and patience with a learning curve. You can try Picasa with some editing in Picnik to pick up frames, or use programs like Gimp all of them are free. Although I have later editions of Elements and a copy of PS on some machines I don't have them on the computer I use frequently and rarely use them.

I have 3 PC and 2 laptops I use weekly, and picture it is the first thing I download. I got the disk on ebay. Windows XP pro is the best for every day use, I have Window 7 taken off my PCs. A lot of old software will not work with 7 but will with XP.

I have W7 home edition and run quite a few programs that only run under XP. The trick is to go to the setup executable and right click on it run Troubleshoot compatibility then Troubleshoot Program then first checkbox click then press next chose the version to install it under where it worked before and push next.

If you like "picture it" and want to install it on Windows 7 you need to install it as Windows XP on Windows 7. Follow this link http://www.ehow.com/how_8249308_install-xp-software-windows-7.html

Bruce, I took a lokk at that web page and then I looked for "Virtual PC" and "XP mode" on my computer...couldn't find it.
When I 1st bought this laptop, with Win 7 Home Premium, I asked about older programs and the Geek told me to get Win 7 Pro, which is supposed to do that automatically. All my programs, except Eudora, run fine. Any more information?

Have you tried IrfanView? Free software is not all bad- and, commercial software is not all good. The balance is about 50/50. IrfanView works very well.

I just have to say that I am constantly sooooo impressed by the willingness of folks on this site to go beyond and find resources to help us folks who are still low on the learning curve. My hat is off to everyone and just know that you are all awesome!!!!!

There are a couple of good ones for fun edits that I have used. One is BeFunky.com and the other is Picnik.com. Both have free versions that will give you a lot of fun edits you can do with frames, text, etc. The paid versions are reasonable and give you more options. Just depends on what you want to do. Here's one I did for Halloween using Picnik:

Oregonlady, if you are familiar with piccturee it. try Photo Impact pro, I have both programs and find photo impact pro to be about the same with ease of use or even easier than pitcure it. It also have frames that you want and many dif borders. It is a fun program and cost about the same as Microsoft pictur it. Check the box to be sure that it has the functions that you want, if it does. you will not have to learn a new program again because it wotks very much like pictur it

Jumping from Picture It to PhotoShop is like going from a Ford Pinto to an Indy 500 racer. No wonder you're dissatisfied! PhotoShop can certainly do what you want, and do it far better, but it requires using layers which you aren't familiar with and a very steep learning curve to get away from frustration.

If you chose to stick with PhotoShop (because you likely can't return it since you opened the package and registered it) and take on learning what it can do, you will be using a 10,000% better editing software and have FAR more capabilities that are too numerous to name here, but if you're a hobbyist you aren't interested in learning all that stuff.

Thanks Bruce, that did the trick for my Eudora. Didn't have to go the troubleshooting route. I just right-clicked on the Eudora executable, went to properties, Compatibility tab, and picked Windows 7 from the drop down.
Now everything is working perfectly.

It's still around, but not as Eudora, per se. It's current iteration is based on, or IS Thunderbird. I really can't stand that one. Outlook doesn't do the things I want. I absolutely love Eudora (and my wife, too!)
