i have used "picture it" (by microsoft) editing software for years and i love it. i mostly use it to crop, label & frame. i recently got a new computer that uses windows 7 and "picture it" is not compatable! i bought photoshop this past weekend but am unsatisfied! (it does not allow you to frame &/or decorate the edges of your picture)
anyone else cross this path?
do u know of a way to get "picture it" working on my new computer?
do u know of an editing program that should do the basic things i'm looking for?

thank you, robin

"Picture it" calls this function "edging". also, "picture it" easily adds clip art to your pictures and i love that! (ie; a silly hat is placed on dad's head.)

I get it. It a convenient way to do the things you want to do without a lot of other distracting things to get in your way. Although, you could get PS to do these things you'd have to learn it another way.

What you want is a fun program that does the frames &c automatically. PS is a pro program with a steep learning curve, I can understand that you are dissatisfied. I've checked the web for solutions to installing picture it on Win 7, some answers here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_programs/will-there-be-a-new-microsoft-picture-it-for/0d8f701d-9803-4018-be4b-0fd700168608

Especially the post (I just quote it-have not tried it):

"I have, after much hair-pulling, gotten Microsoft Picture It! 2001 to work with Windows 7. Windows Live Photo Gallery doesn't do a fraction of the things that MPI2001 did and is horrible to use. I have Windows 7 Home Premium. Here's what to do (this worked for me; I can't guarantee results):

1. Install MPI2001 from your old disks BUT install it under Win98 compatibility. For some reason, even though it ran just fine under WinXP, that compatibility mode didn't work for me.

2. The program will be installed but if you double-click on the icon or the exe file, it will crash. This, of course, makes it seem like the installation failed. So opening the program first doesn't work.

3. Find the picture(s) you want to edit and make a copy of it/each one. This is very important!! Then right-click on the copy of the picture and choose "Open with" and MPI2001. The picture will open in the program.

4. Now, however, the "Save As" function does not work so to save your work you have to choose "Save." This is why it's so important to make a copy of your original picture, so that original will not be overwritten with your edited one.

I've used many of the functions of MPI2001 and haven't found any so far that don't work, except for the aforementioned "Save As." Good luck!"

Hope this helps. Also google "ms picture it for windows 7" which will bring up a lot of discussion on this topic.

I'm not familiar w/elements, using PS. But a quick Google search pulled up a lot of tutorial links, for example:
http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/adding-a-digital-frame-to-your-digital-photo-with-.pageCd-storyboard,pageNum-7.html

I'd suggest that you use Google a lot to find solutions to what you want to do - people are eager to share their knowledge.

Try Paint Shop Pro or take a look at it, it use to have some frames built in and is very easy to add clipart as "tubes" to it! In fact I think you get free downloads for tubes!!

If you like "picture it" and want to install it on Windows 7 you need to install it as Windows XP on Windows 7. Follow this link http://www.ehow.com/how_8249308_install-xp-software-windows-7.html

I used to have Picture It, you can make it run on Win 7, or you can set up a dual boot in Win 7, or if you have Win 7 Pro you can have a virtual machine running XP.
Either way take a look at The Print Shop by Broderbund. It lets you do tons of things with pictures and clipart. Very simple to use. Probably about $20.

Bruce, I took a lokk at that web page and then I looked for "Virtual PC" and "XP mode" on my computer...couldn't find it.
When I 1st bought this laptop, with Win 7 Home Premium, I asked about older programs and the Geek told me to get Win 7 Pro, which is supposed to do that automatically. All my programs, except Eudora, run fine. Any more information?

OregonLady, I know what you mean about Picture It! I use it's descendant, Digital Image Pro. It's SOOOO easy to use. I use it for all my basic editing, then I go to PS 7 for the more aggressive editing. My D.I.P. works just fine in Win 7. Did you try reinstalling it from the original disk?

BruceJ has some good advice.

I too ran into the same dilema, but alas, I found another program that is easierto use than PS. It is Photoimpact Pro 13 from Nova development. Way cheaper than PS as well here is the URL

http://www.novadevelopment.com/?gclid=CLWznMbvuKwCFQmAhwodjB1Pyg
They also have other programs that are somewhat similar to Picture it. Hope this helps
