Yikes! Great photos! I saw many alligators when I visited the Everglades, but not quite as many in one place as your photos show. I keep seeing thousands of Gucci handbags (LOL).

Yes they can! When the rookery is active, there are hundreds of photographers there every day! Hundreds of birds, many feet away from the boardwalks!
