Nicely done on a really difficult subject to find the "right" composition and perspective. I've been the park over 8x in the Winter (until a combination of Park policies, unstable funding by Congress,(shutdowns) and the selling of the winter "over the snow bus" company to a virtual gorilla company made it impossible to use them,) looking for the -30 to 40 degree snow blown classic photo by Tom Murphy, taken at Soda Creek at -50 degrees. Tom Mangelsen also has a classic winter wind blown look I've spent a lot of time trying to find. Alas, not yet. Winters are just getting too warm to find those classic really cold shots.
Excellent images of majestic animals as always. I am looking forward to more Yellowstone posts. I will be in Yellowstone in a couple of weeks. Your photos just make me anxious.

Just returned from Yellowstone. It was not the stellar year like last year with wolves and lots of wildlife. Even the bison were fewer and far between. However, I still think the bison are such magnificent animals I enjoyed taking their photos again!
I found myself in a bit of a pickle with the first 2 photos. I had hiked down a closed road that cross-country skiers used to see the bison off in the fields, yes giving them plenty of space. When the group decides it is going to cross the road I was on! So some go off to the right side and some go off to the left. I'm in the middle, the mom and calf just stop and look, the solo one decides to walk right toward me. So, off to the field I go where they just were to let them have the road. They were not threatening in any way, but there was one still in the field and the solo one seemed determined to go where I was standing. Of course I took photos while deciding my best course of action to stay out of their way!

Wonderful set! Luv the colors and textures. Your use of available light is commendable as all images are sharp! Thanx for sharing!

You will enjoy it! Are you doing a snowcoach or just driving Lamar Valley?

Yes, things are getting more difficult, crowded and just different. -35 is still a record for me and it was windy! To be as good as either Tom!
