This is indeed a beautiful set of shots especially in view of the extreme contrast between the Bison and the snow.
Years ago while visiting Yellow Stone, we saw a herd of Bison out in a large field that were too far out to get decent shots of them, so, I proceed to walk towards the herd when I noticed a crowd of people following me wanting to do the same. We got within about 60 feet of the Bison when I saw one of them clawing at the ground. I knew he was unhappy with us getting so close so we all backed away and returned to our cars. A ranger came along later and told us that bison are the most dangerous animals at Yellow Stone. Many people are gorged or trampled and badly injured or killed when they get too close. I thought about it later that if had been a herd of cattle bulls, we wouldn't have gone anywhere near them. How stupid it was to walk up on a herd of wild Bison! We did get some nice shots though.
I really like the third photograph. Great portrait.

Just returned from Yellowstone. It was not the stellar year like last year with wolves and lots of wildlife. Even the bison were fewer and far between. However, I still think the bison are such magnificent animals I enjoyed taking their photos again!
I found myself in a bit of a pickle with the first 2 photos. I had hiked down a closed road that cross-country skiers used to see the bison off in the fields, yes giving them plenty of space. When the group decides it is going to cross the road I was on! So some go off to the right side and some go off to the left. I'm in the middle, the mom and calf just stop and look, the solo one decides to walk right toward me. So, off to the field I go where they just were to let them have the road. They were not threatening in any way, but there was one still in the field and the solo one seemed determined to go where I was standing. Of course I took photos while deciding my best course of action to stay out of their way!

Well done! You have to work with what you get and you did very well.

Those are wonderful shots. #s 4, 5, & 6 are the best of the lot. The B&W #4 is easily the pick of the litter and is just magnificent. Well done.
Actually the one I just posted is the best of the trip! I’m glad you enjoyed these!

yes, you do want to give them space! A long lens is also quite helpful! A tail up is another sign of aggression, or pooping!
Every one of them outstanding captures
