The other day I visited via a mile and a half hike an area where snow geese gather for the winter. When something spooks them, and a flock leaves the water it's a sight to be seen. I tried to recreate that in the next images. View the downloads. The tools used are a Nikon D500, a Nikon 200-500mm prime zoom with a 1.4X teleconverter, and a Gitzo tripod with a Waverly gimbal.

They should be heading up here in a month, maybe....great captures, coj

Interesting perspective. Very nice.

A prime lens by its very definition is not a zoom lens.

Thank you - I call the lens that because Nikon does, having a fixed aperture I guess is the logic behind that.

I have had a number of opportunities to observe these massive Snow Geese lift offs. It is always a stunning experience. Your images have captured the essence of the moment.

Thx - Without a movie, it's hard to describe the "wave" of birds rising from the water, so I tried a
to put some stills in order to have the same effect.

Yeah, it's a bit of work to get in there, but you get you hike's worth.
And on top of it, I shot this eagle on the way in!!
