They are oblivious to their surroundings and never notice the cars, thugs, snakes, etc., that are targeting them. Yesterday I was next to a young lady that was TEXTING while driving in traffic. I've seen people on cellphones while driving through our wreck scenes. Incredible!

As I was departing the subway earlier this morning, the woman alongside of me walked her phone into the backpack of the man in front of her and dropped it between the train and the platform. I decided to shoot people looking at their phones when they should have had a modicum of situational awareness, especially on the subways, or when crossing the street. My camera has a fixed 28, and on the street I did not stop to shoot, just fired as I walked along. I took maybe 25 to 30 shots, but I will only include a few of the most egregious. My editing was minimal. Just trying to make a point.

They get what they deserve, what about the ones on their phones listening to their ear buds that drive in front of the train? Happens all the time.

Snakes? In Manhattan? Or are you alluding to the two-legged species?😂

Your point has amply been made. And though it may not be a new one, what's undeniable is that you've made it with grace and style. As well, there's an editorial --as in, what to include and what not include-- consistency here involved worthy of a true photographic 'Essay'. Which is something any number of 'hoggers might seek to learn something about, regardless their subject matter.

In short: Kudos!

I enjoyed the pictures. It brought to mind of a neighbor I had in Simi Valley, CA who was a retired LA swat team member. He kept telling his teenage daughter not to walk around looking at her phone because she was a victim waiting to happen. He caught her one day walking down the sidewalk looking at her phone and promptly took it threw it on the sidewalk and smashed it with his foot. The teenager was telling my wife about it and told my wife that what her dad did she deserved it.

I’ve always felt that if I were suddenly granted Almighty powers and could go back and un-invent something, it wouldn’t be nuclear weapons. It would be the cell phone.

That's true but the reverse is that cellphones save multitudes of lives...I'm old enough to remember that if you were driving down the road and saw a wreck or fire that you had to go knock on doors to find someone home with a phone. Several years ago I was on I-95 and actually saw a car go into the median and overturn. I stopped and told my wife to call while I was checking the driver and she told me later that she was the third caller...this was literally a few seconds because she was calling as I was pulling into the median. We get calls into Central now literally while the incident is occurring. We also use them to map calls in areas that we might not be totally familiar with and we use the gps features to locate lost people. They are amazing devices.

They would be lost. Maybe, when one thinks about, they are.

I can understand the Dad’s frustration but I question the reaction. Suppose the girl finds herself, purely by chance, in a situation where she needs help? Of someone needs to reach her?

If they haven't already done so, psychologists will soon name a disorder after this type of behavior.
