Went looking for the nesting GHO again this late afternoon and found him ! I intended to use my Canon 80D but forgot it in my other car. That left me with the Sony A99 and the Tammy 150-600 G2. The Owl was in the shade in late afternoon....ISO 1600, f8, 1/250 shutter, from tripod @ 560mm and 1.5X CIZ = 840mm FOV and 35% cropping .......so I am now convinced that using the Tammy @ f8 and less than 600mm and then using CIZ gives good results.

Thanks to ALL for stopping by and to comment ....Larry

OH yes, I used my $10 Manfrotto flea market aluminum tripod with the center post raised about 9 inches to get the camera/lens over my head and pointed up. I used a Promaster 45mm ball head.

Superb shots, Larry. The GHOs I have encountered would not let me get anywhere near them.

Excellent shots Larry!
I have to admit the "Sony" shot really stands out! (I'm using an 80D...)
Great "stink eye", it gave you!
