The best I could achieve was a slight tidy-up. It's not a lack of sharpness that's the problem, it's a lack of detail. Much of the detail has been lost irretrievably. There may be an AI function somewhere that can miraculously replace the lost detail.

You're welcome. My attempt isn't great - perhaps you could post it in the Post Processing section (https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/s-116-1.html).

You might look at the discussion, software and results at this post : https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-725105-1.html

The image in question looks similar to this B&W start-point, see the image about midway down on the first page.

R. G. is right. Not much to work with. I darkened it up a little, and more, and it seems to help, at least to me. I tried, like R.G....Was this photographed under glass?

I'm sure you are going to get some good advice. If it were me I would find a professional and have him/her take a look. To me it's worth the money

Have you tried scanning it, saving as a JPEG, then work on it with Photoshop and/or Topaz?

Here is my feeble attempt. Basically, it is above my pay grade, but thought I would give it a shot.

A week or two ago, a Hogger was trying to match a good sharp-looking version of a portrait he was working on using a conventional photo editor. The difference in the before and after versions was striking! Someone mentioned an app called Remini which basically took cloned portions of other images from a database to create, at first glance, a very good copy. It couldn't hurt, the price is right!

As Fanny Hill said: "Any port in a storm!"

Be well!
