They can be hard to capture even in a "controlled setting" like at the Desert Museum. I love the cara-cara in front of the saguaro!

Ha, I was just there and did the same show. Nice shots in a difficult setting! So many people crowded I found it hard to get a shot, I have many with a guy and his big white hat…. Plus not knowing where to look and when. Plus keeping the lens below your head. I wanted to go several times, by then I would know the routine and would just concentrate on one area to get better takeoff and landing shots…
You did well! Have not even looked at mine yet.
Beth

Thank you Beth
I've had some outings with only about 12 people, allowing me to move around. This time they had bus loads of teenagers. It was challenging to film around tge crowd. I had to delete a ton of photos with people's heads blocking the birds.
The Raven wouldn't fly Thursday.

But it is still a great experience!

Please post your photos

Jim

Great set of photos. Not too many get GHOs in flight.

Thank you Hereford.....
I appreciate the compliments.

I have to admit these were taken at the Sonoran Desert Museum in Tucson. They hold a daily "Raptor Free Flight" show, where they bring out some raptors for guests. Thursday they had the GHO, Harris's Hawks, The Caracara and a Raven. The birds have a mind of their own, but they try to entice them with treats to land on some of the Trees/Cactus etc. They fly over guests heads as they go either side of the path. So it makes the task easier than totally in the wild. But still a challenge to estimate where they may fly to next, and to avoid photographing users heads as they step in front of you to see the birds.
I've felt the Owls wings brush up against my head as it flew over me (very little close....and very exciting).
