And you are correct :)

Not what it was even 3 years ago, but there is hope, they are planting more trees and cleaning it up

I loved shooting there. It is a very small pond with an island and you can practically pick out a single spot, set up your tripod and shoot for a long period of time without having to move. Great variety of large birds and they all nest on that island. Where places like Green Cay and Wackodahatchee have mile long boardwalks and are not conducive to tripod use, the Venice Rookery is convenient and easy and I've always left with a bunch of great shots. I hope they are able to bring it back to it's former glory.

Had to shoot slow because of the lack of light but here is the first real test of the new gear.

Hope you enjoy.

They will be better when we get a sunny day :)

I don't know about the dull day but your shots look perfectly good to me.

Some really great images for the conditions. I especially like that one of the baby.

Well there has been a lot of construction in the area with a couple of pawns being taken away across the street from the rookery and they put building a detainment center. It's going to be under construction for some time so there's a bit of a workaround to even get into the rookery. But what I have always loved in the past is walking around the rookery with a handheld because that's where you'll get the interesting shots of the green herons catching fish. And on a foggy morning, the spider webs covered with dew. There's always something interesting and then the little retainment pond. On the back side you'll find snowy egrets swimming across the pond and fishing

Oh the little baby. I don't remember the the father ever coming back. The mother was there with the baby but I don't remember the father being there but there wasn't there's three pair of or maybe four pair of blue herons there. Right now there's about six pair of seven pair of great egrets. We've only got two pair of cormorants that I know of and one pair of an hinges and one pair of more hens. Normally this time of year we have triple that of each so I don't know if we're ever going to get them back because of all the construction. It really screws up their landmarks and does it make him feel very secure when an entire pond or to have disappeared and been replaced by pinching and tractors lol
