South & East Asia 25 - China/Sichuan 24: Jiuzhaigou 15: Shuzheng Tibetan Village - 1
SHUZHENG TIBETAN VILLAGE - At the conclusion of our walks along the rivers and lakeshores, we end up at the Shuzheng Tibetan Village, aka Shuzheng Zhai Village (Zhai actually means "village") situated in the Shuzheng Valley above the Sleeping Dragon Lake and Shuzheng Waterfall.
This is the largest and busiest of all nine villages here in Jiuzhaigou Valley, about 400 of the total 1000 inhabitants of the valley area live here. Tibetan style log houses line the main street and a few side streets, colorful prayer flags wave in the breeze. Since agriculture is no longer permitted inside the National Park, many of the local population operate small stores here and sell various Tibetan souvenirs as well as yak butter tea and snacks.

Thanks Barbara, yes there must have been much effort to achieve all this, but then on the other hand there would be less distractions, especially in the past, for the people living in these remote areas.

Thank you GrannyAnnie for looking in on my new travelogue and your kind comment - I am happy to hear that you enjoyed these images and that your main interest is on architectural details. I believe that this is the first time I see you commenting on one of my tour series, so here is a special welcome to you!
This will be a long tour through four countries in Asia, with a good mix of landscapes, architecture, culture and people, so I encourage you to look in again on the series and hopefully enjoy some other captures. As I said, this will be a well-balanced tour, if you are particularly interested in architecture, I wonder whether you noticed the travelogue I was posting last summer on the "North European Plain", documenting a trip we took from the northern Netherlands through northern Germany into western Poland. That was an interesting trip, particularly architecturally with, I would say, some 90% of the pictures related to architecture. If you have not noticed it at that time, you might want to go back and have a look at it. I have to caution you though, it was a very long series with just over 100 posts, so you would have to have plenty of time on your hand to dive into that.
You can click on the following link with provides the list of the topics I posted, then click on the top to page 6, this travelogue starts in the upper part of this page. Post #1 as usual provides an overview with the maps and some trip and location data, the proper tour starts with post #2. No push, and I know this would be a very long viewing adventure, just thought I mention it.

Thank you very much Jim, I am happy that you enjoyed this set.
Umnak
Loc: Mount Vernon, Wa.
Excellent details you showcased in this vivid little town. I really like the depiction of the falls/river behind the tiger in your detailed shots of the paintings.
Any idea about the circular depictions below(#4, on the foundation/façade), with regards to their meanings? Great angle/perspective on that 2nd shot in this set!!!
Very enjoyable series, as usual Joe!!
