That sensor is even smaller and noisier than the G9.

Yes, I have eliminated that one from consideration.

I am a birder currently using the Panasonic G9 with the Leica 100-400 lens. It is a decent set up, and the weight is good(less than 5 lbs.) but I am unhappy with the amount of noise it produces and the quality of the images in general, probably due to its small sensor. I have about $3,000 to invest in a different camera and lens, suitable for birding, with good low-light capability, and great image quality. I don't care what manufacturer, but the set up cannot be any heavier than 5 lbs. total. Any suggestions on what to purchase? Thank you!

You'll need a full frame camera to get really good low light/high ISO capability. The newer mirrorless cameras from Nikon, Canon and Sony are quite good for action and wildlife photography - but they will be expensive. I would avoid a small incremental step from M4/3 to APS-C - you won't be able to match the image quality and low light/high ISO performance of a full frame.

I assume that you're shooting in RAW - if not, then switch to RAW.
Download trial versions of Topaz DeNoise AI and DxO Pure Raw (which I like better).
Before processing, run your RAW images through one of these and then process. That should improve your noise issue and avoid spending $$.

I really like that idea. Why do you like DxO Pure Raw better?

Yes, we KNOW FF is better ! - BUT, the lenses are too BIG !- and too expensive ......that is what makes APSC better ! And, as always, no matter the format, proper software application can help the noise/IQ issues.

Frigga diggy...pretty much all of the new lenses coming out for wildlife are big.
She's birding for Pete's sake.

FF is the way to go.

I agree that she should just skip the smaller sensors...they won't get her where she wants to go.
Besides...the new FF's already have APS-C mode built right in.

NOT for under 3K .... yes, FF IS the way to go - with size/weight/cost unlimited - MOST of us have at least some of these limits.

If she wants low iso and less noise...only one way to go...FF.

Street photography...micro and crop is fine...

Wildlife...full frame.

Save up...it's what everyone does.

You can pick up a 42MP Sony FF in excellent condition right now for 2k...absolutely destroy crop and micro systems.

I’m addition to posting pics I suggest you take a look at the MU43 website. Dedicated to your sensor size. High quality photograph there.

Thank you, everyone! I am doing a lot of research based on all your recommendations -- including downloading trials of noise removal systems. I appreciate your time and willingness to help.

In 2019 you posted you had a Nikon D5500 and it had noise issues. You were looking for advice for an upgrade with a 2000 budget. At that time you wanted to take pics of kids. Chg_Canon advised you to upload pics then to get some help on noise issues. You did not.

You apparently then changed to a Pany micro 43 system which is more noise prone than the Nikon. I do shoot m 43 but not BIFs. So I know full well about noise.

You also were having issues with Topaz.

This is not an equipment issue. Without posting shots you are encouraging people fuss about equipment rather than technique.

Sorry to be blunt but there is a pattern here.

That's simply because you need to ignore my post which clearly states she can get an excellent FF Sony right now for 2k.

Well...you sell the older body and lens...of course.
Why keep what is not working for you?

There is no wildlife setup anywhere for 2k for a competent body and really sharp long lens...in any format.
