I don't know, it seems pretty easy to understand. If there are no consequences for bad actions, you get more bad actions.

Theft is not a crime in LA. Just ask the Governor or mayor. It's only a crime if it happens to them. Prosecutors are not prosecuting crimes in LA because they interfere with their golf or tennis time. Can we give CA back to Mexico??

four pages of responses and nobody gets to the root cause: greed..."I don't want to pay retail!" Those who are stealing are not using the stuff they steal (that could be understandable). They are selling to some middleman who, in turn, "wholesales" to someone else to sell on e-bay, or a street corner or to "I know a guy who..."

Well, no one did use that explicit word.

One sad thing that happens in our society--A train robber can fall under a wheel and get his leg cut off. Then he can sue the RR Company, claiming they were negligent in protecting him from injury. In todays courts, he would probably win a big settlement. Just like the woman who spilled her coffee and then sued McDonalds. She won.

The McDonalds incident was kind of odd, but she wasn't trespassing on private property. I knew someone who lost an arm while fooling around on freight cars in a railroad yard. They accidentally touched the overhead power line. They tried to sue the railroad and lost. Something about trespassing, warning signs and the victim knowing right from wrong.

Yes, I saw that on YouTube. What a mess. That's a tough problem to solve. The train stops, and the thieves enter.

Yeah, I saw it also. It is a tough problem to solve. The railroads need more security, which costs money, which drives up the cost of shipping...

But did the people who left Europe steal other peoples stuff when they got here???

I believe you know the history as well as I do. The Indians lost their lands and I have Indian friends who have still not forgiven them and rightfully so. That is the tragedy of war and progress. But much was because they were nomads and really did not have deeds. When people follow the buffalo herds around it is hard to give them a home. Others were compensated, later. Unlike my people who were driven out of Missouri, lost their homes, property, killed, raped and only issued an apology a hundred years later. No reparations! Do we deserve some? Yes! Do we want any? No!

Yea, the American Indian was shafted royally,
but what does that have to do with stealing merchandise off a train (or store).
(Unless one considers the land merchandise.)

Duly noted but you failed to limit your response. My bad. I guess that is why I included the clarifier.
You are correct and the corruption should be stopped. Criminal prosecuted and judges disbarred.

As do many of us, but apparently the looters seem to have the same rights as the non-looters. I guess in order for a society of rules and laws to work, even the overwhelmingly obvious criminals are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. It's kind of like the concept of most locks. Locks help keep honest people, honest, and pretty much just slow down the criminals.
The cost of shipping will be going up as the cost of protecting the shipments goes up.

Seems like another plea to defund the police.
