my camera will not format my memory
What do I need to do
I have a Canon Mark four
Does it say anything? (Provide any information?)
Does it just sit there?

Do you get an error code?

Are you able to format the card with your computer?
Is your camera able to format a different memory card?
Is the card's write protect switch on or off?
Here's what you need to do...
Give us more info.

Does your memory card have a lock/protect tab on it? Also does your camera have an option to protect your photos from accidently being erased? I don't shoot Canon but have back button that protects the photos from individual deletion. I don't use it but maybe if it is on threw the shoot.
Good luck.

Check to be sure the little lock switch on the card isn't locked. That's the usual panic cause here...
If that isn't it, try a different card. If the second card formats normally, the issue is with the first card. If the second card won't format, the issue is camera-related.
Be sure the card slot is clean. Hold the camera slot side up, and blast it with a blower bulb or compressed air. (Beware of Dust-Off or other "canned air" that's really a liquid refrigerant.)
Be sure the card contacts are clean. A wipe lightly moistened with a tiny bit of denatured alcohol or 99% isopropyl alcohol will clean grease, food, and other crud from gold-plated contacts on SD cards.
Static electricity occasionally ruins a card. Just walking across a carpet in winter can charge your body with tens of thousands of volts of energy. If you pick up a grounded card... Bzzzzt! I keep my cards in a static-resistant case, and ground myself before handling them or changing them. It's a paranoia left over from my days of upgrading computer memory.
The other day my D200 wouldn't format the card. I formatted it in my computer and tried again in the camera. It worked and has ever since. Just a quirk, I guess.
I will look for code tonight
And I’ll let you know thanks
