He's dragging his tail across the water. How high can they fly? Nice shot.

Great capture. Got a chance to shoot hundreds while stationed in Guam in the 70’s. Very tricky, very few keepers. Fascinating creatures.

Used to watch them " fly " out of the water in groups when I was on the USS Iwo Jima LPH 2 on a Wespac cruise back in '71. They could glide a good long ways. Fun to watch, flying for their lives.

Not dragging, using it to propel itself along. The tail movement makes the curved wake on the water.
I used to watch them when I was on the USS MIDWAY as well. The ship’s bow created enough air wake for them to stay airborne for a good bit. Couldn’t tell how high above the surface they were, but the distance would have gotten them away from any predators.
