What others do should have zero impact on what / how you choose to share. But, if you have a unjustified fear of how your images compare, there's also always the freely available offer to post some images and ask for help and / or ideas of what to do differently.

You are quite correct.

I've been back from a few weeks travel culling images and thinking about 'Technique School' topics. Alas, those topics are a few weeks into the future with thousands of images to cull and several ideas to write about. But in the meantime, a thought hit me that can be asked today: How has UHH changed your life? (I had to use another subject title to assure this thread didn't get pushed to chit chat.)

The thought / question came from a range of images where I was shooting maybe a bit too slow for the wildlife with an effort to keep the ISO low, specifically at ISO-100. That's a change that I can trace directly to UHH. As I approach my own 9-year join-date, the focus on low(est) ISO is something I picked up here at UHH. In the old days, I never worried about the digital ISO, at least not like I do today, and my cameras are all way better today than the model I shot back before joining.

How about you?

For me, UHH has been my main outlet for displaying or sharing my work. The feedback from other hoggers encouraged me to get out and try harder. I made a commitment to try to post something at least once a month and was keeping it up until Covit put an end to my travelling. I'll have to get back to it.

Uhh has been a welcome addition to my photography knowledge and techniques even though a photographer for a lifetime. My only disappointment with UHH is the recent and growing inclusion of politics.

Stay away from the Attic, and sometimes chitchat, and you'll be safe.

I joined this site to learn digital photography and this resulted in the selection of a Z6ii body, which is back ordered from B&H, and a Z 35mm f/1.8 S lens. Member input also assisted in the selection of my software. My son also chipped in with a Peek Design 6L sling bag for a Christmas gift. Nice gift from him.
Thanks to all for your help.

Nice outfit, anchored around a 35 as its normal. My own Z kit is likewise built around 35 as normal ... flanked by a wider wide and a short tele, but the 35 really is the workhorse. I’m predicting you’ll be verrrry happy with that choice.

Uh huh. And if you’re having trouble with a certain Hogster then check their profile and history. If you find that they post to Chitchat and to the Attic, just decide not to interact with them any further.

The Chit-Chat section is generally OK. The Attic is a cesspool. Got dragged in there a few times when Admin moved topics I was following from Chit-Chat into the Attic.

Agree. Most of the posts to the Chit-Chat section are benign or even useful to some people. I'm glad they have an attic section. Some people used to post opinions in deplorable language in other sections, and now there is a place for them.

Not a lot, but a lot of little things. I believe we are never too old to learn nor should we ever stop learning. I have a collection of over 200 photo books and have not, nor do I want to read all of them cover to cover. I use them for inspiration. As I scan through one of a subject I'm interested in at the time, I will see a picture or article that attracts my attention and read that article or inspect the description of a shot to see how the photographer took it. I do the same here on the hog. I will often check out a post for content or a photo to draw inspiration from. I also have enjoyed the brain trust of the collective of people on here and have gotten good information and advise from the members. One I recall in particular was a few years ago. I mentioned that it had been over 25 years since I visited Rocky Mountain NP and wanted to know what were some of the best photo ops in the park. One hogger said to forget RMNP and head to Ouray. I did, and what a great tip. Ouray is a great place to visit and was a good base camp of operations to visit Silverton and some of the deserted mining towns in the area. I will one day go back there so this is one thing that actually did change my life/photography.

UHH probably hasn't changed my photography much. I utilize UHH not so much to learn about photography, but as a resource for opinions on good accessories - tripods, backpacks, printers, carrying straps, etc. , sometimes camera opinions and reviews. I have not been, nor will I ever be a good photographer, but have been a moderately serious amateur for over 60 years (about 45 film, 15 digital). I'm somewhat deeply (for me) invested in one system - that will probably never change, but at my advanced age I enjoy reading and trying to learn something new every day. Though I'm generally just lurking in the background, I learn a lot from reading you guys on a wide variety of issues.

Thanks. I am replacing my Nikkor 35mm f/1.4 which is my normal lens on my Nikon F2.

Paul, I truly want you to know that you changed my old stubborn Jewish roots and I switched to Mirrorless approximately 2.5 months ago. I just shot a Bar Mitzvah right before Hanukkah and I used my Sony A1. I can not believe the difference at high ISO's compared to my Nikon D850 and D5. I just wanted to Thank You. My Nature and Wildlife shots are so much easier with the Eye taking capabilities. Even though my Wife and Fan=mily were ticked off, I shot the Big 10 Championship in Indy this past weekend. I was able to capture about 7 keepers. I work under the U of M athletic Department and I was in the Sidelines as I'am for every Michigan Football game. Although I do help the coaching staff with signals from the booth to the field. You are not trolling as some will say, in fact you really do make some valid points. Thank You- Nickaroo.

Since you are switching from film speeds to “sensor speed boosting”, you will never miss that 2/3 of a stop. Some folks in the bokeh cult may declare it to be a big deal. Maybe one of them will make you a nice offer for your old lens ;-)

Thank you for your response.
My old Nikkor lenes will continue to be used by me.
