I used to have AAA, but the price got too high. Right now, I have Good Sam on two cars. It wants to renew for $90. That covers towing to the nearest facility regardless of mileage, gas, flats, dead battery - the usual. We have two Honda Fits -2015 and 2020 - so I don't foresee a need for these services, but you never know. Before I went with Good Sam a few years ago, I checked out the other services, and this seemed like a good choice.

As you probably know, they all use the same towing companies in any given area, so if the guy is busy, you'll have a long wait, regardless which service you have.

Any opinions on one service over the other?

EDIT: Good comparison -

The cheapest will also pay the tow truck the least. So the wait will become longer when you are last in line to be served.

Having ridden motorcycles over the years, I keep my GWRRA membership going. It gives me roadside assistance on both four-wheelers as well as m/c’s for more & usually less than most other providers. And, when used, they have always called me to see if the towing coming has done their job.

Check your insurance policy. Ours - Gecko - covers such things, at no extra charge.

Our policy also covers these things. We changed insurance companies and the new one also covers it.

In the UK many banks provide roadside assistance cover as part of an account from recognised companies. We have used them a couple of times, even for ‘homestart.’

Like you said, they all use the same towing services! I used to be a AAA member for many years until I found out that my insurance carrier would add roadside service for less than $20/year.

I was a member for quite a while - 1995 Gold Wing. Lots of fun.

Thanks. I'll take a look.

If my CC company hadn't changed my account number, Good Sam would have charged me several weeks ago.

I have been getting excellent service from MetLife through work - house, car, boat. MetLife has transferred all those accounts to Farmers. Fingers crossed!

I stopped carrying road side service because I find that while there may be a little delay in some places I have only used tow service 2 times in 30 years. The last one 4 years ago cost $40. I don't do a lot of travel and if I did I would consider going back to AAA.

Did they offer an explanation as to why they changed your number?

It's Synchrony bank, and when they spot what they think is suspicious activity, they cancel one card and send me another. That's a good thing, but I'm without that card for a week.
