You are my type of UHH member!

My last upgrade 2008.

I use what I have. I just upgraded from a film Nikon F2 to a digital Nikon Z6ii. This should serve me well for the next two decades. I like to have two bodies, so I will add one down the road with a couple Z-S lenses.

No. Could see the vultures hovering and the thread would go to poo poo before it got a chance. Be other times to make the same points.

You haven’t made any points yet. Just tried to backtrack on your lies.

[quote=Rongnongno]I was reading an article titled: “Should you upgrade?”

I upgraded once - from a 40d to a 5d - but that was a long time ago. And yes, I understand the difference between "want" and "need". But remember, wants/needs are my own business, as are yours! Harry

What are you? The UHH bully? Keep following me around. I'm not one for bullies.

My point was pretty much made. If you look at kids in their 20's, they are using $50-100 cameras and will likely blow away the results a bunch of 60+ year olds will achieve with their Z9's and other top end gear.

The kids are worrying about learning, being creative, skill. It's a lost art. So many images with top end gear don't have the blatant fundamentals of photography correct. I'll add you in that group after checking 3 or 4 of your images.

Like I said elsewhere, not much has really changed since 1996 with gear for those who can use a camera well.

My best body is a Nikon D3x. Sorry, I really don't feel at any disadvantage with my 2008 camera and I also don't feel the Nikon D3x is any better than the Nikon F5 of 1996. I've used both extensively.

Will I get more keepers than a Z9 owner? Yes! I'll be focused on the photographic process. I won't be focused on trying to utilize all the new BS my camera has. I can already see the types of images these owners will produce. It's totally predictable. What will I see from the next 20 year old with his/her $50 eBay camera? I have no idea!

It's so much easier to admire the 30MP camera than to produce results worth admiring.

Food for thought. The most expensive cameras in the world have the fewest features. The most important tool for making a good image is the brain.

The best reason to upgrade a digital camera isn't the bells and whistles. It's the improved sensor technology. Not just the resolution, but the increased dynamic range and low light capability. Not that the bells and whistles aren't extremely cool, and often useful, too.

How many of our resident curmudgeons complained back in the day, when new and better films were released?

Imagine your photography if you only had the best equipment.

B&H has it discontinued.
Adorama has it on permanent backorder.
Japan's NIKON site no longer lists the camera (big hint there...home base).

Besides, who in their right mind would buy a new D850 today? Modern landscape centered cameras shoot at 10fps.
Landscape...the turtle mode...and yet.

When did you last look?

Amazon, Adorama, B&H all show the D850 in stock at $300 off as part of Nikon's Black Friday sale.

My old D7000 still works like when it was new. So, considering the market, I think I'll keep shooting with it, rather than upgrading to something else. I use it with BBF and have gotten very used to it, and fluid in my photos. This camera has served me very well since it came out new, so, guess I'll keep it going as long as it keeps shooting. Are there any others out there who still use the D7000 Nikon ?
