Travel Bridge Camera

I have used my Sony RX10IV for the last 3 years. Not a problem with the camera. The only thing you will need to do is to pick up an extra set of batteries. The Sony batteries when you are doing a photo shot or storing them in a camera bag lose power. Watson makes a replacement battery that holds a charge longer than the Sony battery and is cheaper.

Reading the thread thus far, I wind up admiring the Sony. I shoot multi Sonys myself but also multi Olympae.

I have no sad tales of evil dust-sucking megazoom bridge cameras simply cuz I cannot imagine owning a non disposable camera that has no access to its sensor for easy cleaning by the user.

So I will continue admiring Sony’s ultra RX bridge from afar and continue using my “home brewed bridge” made from Olympus std components. It’s smaller than the RX monster, has both WiFi and Bluetooth, raw, and can rinse off under a faucet. I can suggest it over the RX but I can’t suggest what to do with the $500 you’re saving :-(

The current B&H price for the EM5 mkIII with 14-150 mkII is $1100.

My kit is made up of older models, but if anything ever happen to it, I’d take that $1100 deal in a blink !

There are always other choices. If the price and stories of the non-intuitive menu makes you pause, you might consider the Lumix DMC-FZ2500. Similar specs and not as many $. Compare here:

If you want a pocketable mega-zoom with 1" sensor, you have the Lumix DC-ZS200 as well as the SONY DSC-RX100 VII. I have a predecessor to the 200, the Lumix DMC-ZS100 and love it. The flash on these, however, is not as powerful as the full bridge models.

Take a Look at the Leica V-Lux 114: a bridge camera with great quality.

Very few compromises with the RX10m4. Here is a sampling:

I have both the RX10 and RX100. They are both 1 in sensors. They both have great lenses. They are touted as Pro quality cameras....and they are. The RX100 will fit in your shirt pocket. I love them both. The only negative things I have heard about the RX100 is that it is hard for people with large fingers to operate the controls. Either one is a fine camera it just depends on your needs.

The RX10M4 is a fantastic "all purpose" camera. Great for travel, and I found it superb for shooting live music performances when you don't want to carry any gear...you just can't beat it.

You can buy the same camera with the Lumix name on it Panasonic FZ1000.
I have a boat load of cameras and my go to bridge cameras are Panasonic, the others are collecting dust. It must be the Leica Glass.

On paper these look very competitive, and just looking at the specs would have one believe that the edge goes to the LumixDMC-FZ2500. However, the handling, AF speed, optical quality, battery life, etc all go to the Sony. I've used both and own the Sony RX10M4, and would not consider the Lumix to be in the same class. But it is a very good value.

Can’t be more complicated than my D800E .. D810 .. & D850 …that being said .., As I have a huge book on the D850 .., like ways .., I would purchase one of those you recommended and be familiar with this RX10 IV camera before using it ..

I often wonder if I could achieve as good or better results taking my D850 and just 1 lens .. the best zoom range Nikon Makes …
The only complaint I have heard about the RX10 IV .., and I know it is weather sealed .., but I hear it sucks in dust zooming in and out like a 200-500 does … and that what ever you do .., stay away from a used one for this reason ..

Thnx for your reply …

I am retired now, but when I was working, I traveled 95% of the time. I traveled with only my Nikon F2 and a 35mm lens. The pictures where sharp and clear. When my Z6ii is delivered, I will post some examples. The camera was lite and didn't take up much space.
I hope everyone had a nice holiday.

They actually come off the same production line.
