A couple of years ago I applied for a payboo card touting an 800+ credit score. I was turned down. The main reason, I think, was that we pay our cc bill off every month. They undoubtedly knew that. Synchrony would lose $ on every purchase in this case.
might be why I got the run around too, pay off every month, no money , don't buy!
What you should be asking is if there is any advantage to buying from a local camera store versus giving the "giants" your money. As many times as I've said I wouldn't upgrade my Nikon D810 to the D850, I got the itch when it went on sale and just drove 20 miles to Action Camera in Roseville, CA, bought it, and drove home with it. (I confirmed they had it in stock first.) No waiting. No risk of someone stealing it or having it delivered to the wrong address.
The price was identical to Nikon's sale price.
I have ordered from B&H and Adorama. No complaints, but I do try to keep the local guys in business.

The interest rate is 29.99% APR, and you do not get the state tax refund in all states. If you're going to pay off the purchase in a month or two, you'll come out ahead. If not, you'll pay Synchrony Bank that interest on the unpaid balance, and they're obviously counting on people carrying a balance.
I will not buy from anyone and knowingly finance through Synchrony Bank. Very high interest.
Check out on the B&H website the Payboo credit card. It's real, and it works. We have 6% sales tax where I live, and I paid zero tax when buying a new body.
So it's not fair to bring up other options that one may not have considered? (Buying locally) The answer to the question is no. I don't think we have to be so rigid here. Information is always a good thing.
If the price is the same, more or less, is there any advantage to ordering directly from Nikon as opposed to one of the other sellers such as Adorama, etc.?
If there is tax, you can save it using the B&H Pay-Boo Store card. Mundy
Many of the vendors offer extended warranty packages and sometimes they have packages that have bonuses added without additional mark up. I prefer to buy what I hold in my hand first. See it, touch it, smell it. I guess it is a throwback to my dating days. ROFL

The PayBoo card is the best deal around for the buyer who does pay off his credit cards before any interest comes due, and shipping is free as long as the purchase totals at least $49. That's why I buy any new gear from BHPhoto.
