For Canon at least the 2012 is for ILC mirrorless.

Those dates are all for ILC mirrorless.

And how many years without EVF faults and failures?
How reliable have sensor shields been?
I’ll just wait it out thanks.

I’m guessing there are occasional failures and there always will be. Just like things on DSLR’s can fail, shutters, mirror mechanisms, LCD screens, electronic displays in the OVF. Not only are EVF’s not new to cameras but it’s not some technology that’s specific to cameras. The technology used in EVF’s has been used in other industries even longer. I guess you don’t have a flat panel monitor for your computer because it hasn’t been proven yet. The same logic applies to the sensor shield. It’s a pretty simple mechanism. While applying the concept to covering a camera sensor is new they didn’t exactly push the bounds of physics to develop it. We’ve had automatic covers on devices for decades.

Why? I find it very entertaining here!

And educational. I keep learning so much about personalities.

Some have been escorted away in handcuffs. Some mysteriously just vanish. And some are like the tree planted by the water.

I notice in gear threads most of the time people own several camera bodies, masses of lenses, masses of other accessories and it’s often high end expensive stuff.

So I’m thinking, surely users with entry level cameras, those who only own a single body and maybe one or two lenses are the most common types of photographers. Where are they? Surely not everyone here is rich?

I’d personally enjoy reading about these people’s cameras, adventures, thoughts and experiences more often. Just sayin

During the 1970's I only had one camera, a Nikon F2-S with a 35mm F/1.4 for several years. That is all I could afford. That camera and lens went across the world several times. It was not until the mid 1980's I added more bodies and lenes. Even though newer F bodies where avaiable, I stuck with Nikon F2 bodies. I still use them all today. Whern my Nikon Z6ii arrives next week, I will add that to my list of my 1st digital camera. I already have the Z 35mm F/1.8 S lens for it.
If you know your camera and lens, you will be surprised the number of good quality pictures can be taken. However, some sports pictures and other pictures of birds may not be possible.

Reasonable thought and question. But, remember the community membership being questioned. The average age is what? Retirement, post-retirement? The young and active can't sit around through a pot of coffee every morning arguing about filters, sensorsize, mirrorless, why Canon isn't the best brand for everyone, and spelling.

Good answer. I read it while drinking coffee, watching the snow fall and pondering the day ahead.

The first digital I bought was a Canon 40D. Then I moved to full frame and got a 5Dc. (I print mostly 8x10s) Plus too many lens. Now I have a 35mm on the 5D and carry a 70-200 f4, a 70-300 and a 50, plus an 85 or 100. And a 1.4 extender. All in a small leather plumber's bag. Works for me, ymmv. (I don't like WA much plus 300 and the extender is long enough for my needs (mostly bird dog field trials where the dog is usually no more than a quarter mile away) Harry
