I'm just not phone-y! Don't own one, won't carry one. I'd rather miss any photo I can imagine than carry a phone.

My first reason for owning and carrying a cell phone is not for photographing, but for security reasons. There aren't anymore Pay Phones, so in case of an emergency one has no way of reaching out for help.

If I found myself remembering to grab my phone because it has a camera, I’ve failed my hobby and myself.

Always been able to take care of myself in the past, when I can't, probably a hint that I stayed too long.

I can somewhat understand not wanting to carry a phone around. I cannot understand someone feeling and erxpressing pride in not having one....

Had one for work soon after they became available to the general public, was virtually required to have one till I retired. In the course of that time, I've watched phones become a pathology. I'm sure I have my share, but phones, not!

Isn't it a phone?

I have a Canon SX720 HS that I carry in my back pocket.
I'm never without a camera.

Took a bit longer than I expected.

I was told the same thing by my instructor-back in the mid '50s!! That was when transistors were just being introduced.

Look, those who want to carry a phone, carry a phone. Those who don't, don't. Lets stop this nonsense and and just get along. Who cares?

And you my friend are a awesome dude. Most everyone in the world has caved on their principles or beliefs and justified it in many ways. I see what has happened to the world since everyone has a phone and most post on social media daily if not hourly. Personally. My contractors used to be able to give me a complete materials list. Very very seldom needing extra material. Now I get several calls a day with the same contractors needing this and that. Just a small example of the phone on the hip allowing people to not be nearly as organized. It also seems social media has allowed all the fringe people to get in touch with each other and become large groups. Is a phone nessary? No! Have they saved lives yes but in the big picture we are all going to die anyway. Have they destroyed organization and thought for many? Have they been used to steal money? All I'm saying is who looks at the downsides of the phone? Hardly no one. I believe Quixdraw is one who sees the whole picture. He has made a decision and stuck to it. Commendable in today's society. Good rant huh? Lol
And you my friend are a awesome dude. Most everyon... (show quote)

If they were using their phones correctly they’d be more organized and less likely to call.

A phone's great when you're out shopping for the partner and you're not sure what it is on the list he/she wants you to buy. A quick pic of the choices sent to his/her phone quickly allows the correct purchase. Many similar situations can be helped in this way.

The pictures from most phones are quite good until you try to do something with them then you quickly discover their limitations - try zooming on that Bald Eagle sitting in the tree 200 yards away!! Or crop the resulting non-zoomed shot on your PC at home. Not very good at all. Still, if that's all you have with you, then its certainly your best camera at the time.

I love going out shooting with my cameras. I love shooting in raw and then going home and selecting my best shots and exiting them for the best results. I also love that I have this great device in my pocket that has a better than adequate camera function. It’s really great for taking photos of things like serial numbers and other things I want to document. Or if I’m out with friends at dinner and someone wants a group shot they can send to friends or post on social media. I could take those shots with a “real” camera but I wouldn’t. Have the advantage of having that image readily accessible and easily transmittable. Another great function of my phone? It makes a terrific wireless remote and let’s me view the scene and make exposure adjustments without touching the camera.
