The so-called "conservatives" in this country turned it into a political issue. Instead of seeing it as requiring a sensible joint effort to get the economy and the country back to normality, it is seen as a badge of your political standing to believe the crazy nonsense put forth by any nut with a theory. The vaccine not only protects our own health but it will help protect the more vulnerable if we can significantly stop the spread of it. But "conservatism" has come to mean "You ain't MY problem". I've heard that attitude expressed often. I used to consider myself a conservative Republican but I am thoroughly disgusted by what that has come to signify.

Mandates are good, I think the government should mandate jobs. There are plenty of openings all across the country in every city. A vaccine for the end of the public dole would be great.

As I've said before, it's all about who you choose to believe, I get most of my information from a few frontline health care workers that I know personally and who have nothing to gain by lying. Also, it seems like the widespread distrust of politicians seems to diminish when it comes to certain issues, like Covid or global warming,Covid is as much of a political issue as it is a health issue. Also I personally do not trust Bill Gates since the vaccines he sent to Africa, apparently contain abortion chemicals and he has been caught lying about certain aspects of the Covid issue like microchips in the vaccine, as determined by body language observations, as well as outright lies.

Wide2tele,
I applaud your state of Victoria and the Aussies in general for achieving what the USA seemingly has so much trouble accomplishing by following good, tried, and proven public health measures. Here, the politicizing of vaccination, of masking indoors, of limits on crowded gatherings, etc, etc, along Red vs Blue party lines has made it nearly impossible to get a common enemy, Covid, under control. Furthermore, the lack of understanding of basic science and the scientific method by a huge segment of our population has contributed to the plethora of misinformation and lies promulgated by a host of charlatans in the media, in high office, at the pulpit, etc. Instead of heeding the advice of the public health officials, doctors, researches, and other qualified experts, they hide behind their shield of "personal freedom," while sacrificing the common goal of public health. Out of such stupidity, 750,000 lives were lost here, the biggest number in the world. So many nations, Australia included, with far fewer resources than the U.S. possesses, has done much better with fewer deaths, particularly when public health measures were followed, instead of selfish personal freedoms. We won't be out of the woods yet for a much longer time!

Whoever thinks california is homogenous would be incorrect. My county is RED bigtime, low vaccination rate, plenty of "freedom yellers" who defiantly will not wear masks. People I thought I knew, I stay away from their social media posts to avoid disliking them when it comes to this subject. It's sad how a health disease became a social one too.

In the US the CDC (a medical dept. of the govt.) has already stated categorically two things...
1.) The vaccines do not prevent the recipient from contracting Covid.
2.) The vaccines do not stop the recipient from transmitting Covid to others.

So the question is...why do we care if others are not vaccinated...it does nothing to protect others...just the folks who get the vaccine...and only if they contract Covid.

I doubt that the vaccination level being 100% is going to stop the COVID virus or any other virus. Viruses mutate and it will require annual boosters to reduce the number of people who get it. Hospitals need to get back to treating normal medical problems that are going to kill a lot of people if not treated properly. Doctors are almost totally distracted by this current pandemic. Vaccines, especially ones like were produced for this virus, will need to be tweaked as more info is available. We all just need to settle down and ride this pandemic through until it is under control. Any vaccine will probably kill a few who have adverse reactions. Still, it will help the majority of those who have the vaccine. I was in the military for thirty years and have had virtually every vaccine known to man. I had a reaction once to a typhus/typhoid shot. It didn't kill me but I sure was wishing to die, it hurt so bad. I'm now 75 and apparently all these vaccines have helped since I have not had even a common cold for the last 20 years. Either that or my genes are very good!

Numbers in the USA and Texas as of Sunday according to the Texas Department of State Health Services and the CDC:

1 Dose
Texas = 66%
USA (Age 12+) = 79 %

Full Dose
Texas = 58%
USA (Age 12+) = 68%

There is also plenty of evidence that those who did get vaccinated get milder illness. Just ask those who got Covid with or without the vaccine.

I've had both shots and the booster. A bit disappointed that I didn't become magnetic, don't glow in the dark or have tentacled creatures in my blood. Why do other people have all the fun?
