The Price of Cordless Tools

I find it interesting that cordless tools cost more than the corded versions. With hand tools, there is an electric motor, either 120v or 18v. With lawnmowers, the internal combustion engine is replaced with an electric motor. I wonder if they're charging for the convenience, or if there is a legitimate reason for the price difference.

Greenway plug-in mower - $119; battery version - $279
DeWalt 7 1/2" circular saw plug-in - $116 with tool bag; battery version $168

Is that price, with or without the battery?

It’s all about demand and convenience.

Most of them, the battery costs as much as the tool.

Yup.
If one doesn't use them a lot, it's cheaper (or the same) in some instances not to buy a second battery and just replace the unit when the battery that comes with the unit dies.

How about this: DeWalt 20v drill, package comes with two batteries, carry case, drill, and charger, $99. Love the drill, went to buy a spare battery, single battery $59. A pack of two batteries was $79, so only $20 more to get a new drill, two batteries, a charger and carry case? Guess who now has two drills, four batteries, 2 chargers and two cases, one set for the garage and one for the cellar workshop.

Yep, I wanted to get an extra battery for my cordless lawnmower. Costs almost as much as I originally paid for the mower with included battery!
But I will never go back to a gas mower. With a cordless mower, no problem starting it up, no need to buy and store gas and oil, and no smelly fumes.

will

Lowes - Link says it expires Nov 10, but this price has been valid for the last several years at my local store.

And try to buy a replacement battery after after you have had the cordless item a few years….. nowhere to be found or a price higher than a new corded item.

How do you like the drill??? I'm thinking about replacing mine with that unit, as my older Dewalt the replacement battery for it is $175. Nope not paying that price, looke at off brand batteries for it and they start at $59, so probably just going for the new drill.

It's a DeWalt sale price , you should be able to get it anywhere that sells them,. I know in my area "North Carolina" you can get it at Lowes, Home DePot, Ace Hardware, Northern Tool, and more....
