Thank you all for your advice, the Epson tank printer models sound good. I will check out the ET-2760.

Yes, I do rave about the ET-2760 tank printer. I'm surprised Epson hasn't quadrupled the price of ink. I paid $65 for a standby set of ink. The ink in the printer is at about the halfway point after printing over 3,000 pages. I like the way it easily prints on both sides of the page.
Jerry,
Do you use the ET-2760 for photo printing?
The caveat with Epson is that you must use their ink. No third-party allowed. Anything other than Epson discovered at an update of firmware or any internet connection with Epson, they will disable your printer.
I personally would stick to either Canon or Epson photo printers.

Have you personally had the experience of "Anything other than Epson discovered at an update of firmware or any internet connection with Epson, they will disable your printer."???
I do not use anything other than Epson EcoTank Ink so I can't say either way with any certainty. But I would like to know just in case I am ever tempted.
I am having a similar experience to jerryc41 above who said: "I'm surprised Epson hasn't quadrupled the price of ink. I paid $65 for a standby set of ink. The ink in the printer is at about the halfway point after printing over 3,000 pages.
Also: Epson EcoTank Ink Bottles are readily available from Epson, Amazon, and Costco at very reasonable prices.

Hello hoggers, my 7 year old Epson all-in-one printer finally made its last print today. I have been in the market for a new all-in-one that prints great photos. My Epson was very good and I would definitely buy a new model. However, I am looking for advice on other brands, Canon, Brother, etc. The printer is for home use and my budget is up to $500.00. Hogger input would be greatly appreciated.
If you want an All-in-one, Epson's EcoTank printers are hard to beat for total cost of ownership. They're a little pricey up front, but the bottled ink is FAR less expensive and lasts a LONG time. We love our ET-4700.
Thanks for your advice, I decided to look at the ET-4700 models.

I didn't mean it as a shot. I meant that the 2760 would be a good one to look into. I'm sorry if you took it wrong
We have the Epson-4760 tank printer that is an all in one, and are very happy with it so far. Purchased 7 months ago.

I bought the Epson XP 15000 and love it. Goy it on sale from Adorama
Jimmy, I purchased a cheap Epson following the demise of an earlier one. I just needed something to hold me over the holidays to get Christmas letters written, etc. after which I would do research and procure a substantial, multi function unit. The carts that came with the printer lasted 25 color pages....pretty skimpy in my opinion. I purchased some third party ink and the printer worked well and I finished my holiday requirements. Then I got a notice to update the firmware which I did. Suddenly the printer shut down. Nothing working. After contacts with Epson customer service I was informed I had to buy their ink or the printer was kaput.
I was really upset that my purchase of a piece of machinery didn't guarantee privacy of it's use. I actually felt my home had been invaded by big brother who was requiring me to utilize their very expensive products. I didn't think this was a subscription service I had purchased but, in essence, it was. I contacted the Washington State AG who, in turn, contacted Epson. Epson's lawyers responded rapidly with copies of the sales literature that accompanied the printer indicating it would only run on Epson ink. In fact, it ran very well with the third party ink and, had I not updated the firmware that gave Epson a chance to scan my printer, I'd still be using it. Since the AG effort ended where it did, it only gave me the satisfaction that I complained and additional complaints may encourage the State to pursue this outrage more.
I've made a shaggy dog story out of this but it did serve two lessions: 1. Don't buy Epson and 2. don't update firmware if you're using more reasonably priced 3rd party ink.

I'm sorry if I have upset you.
It sounds like you have a legitimate gripe with the Epson "small print".
Also, 25 pages of printing is a pretty skimpy output.
That is why I left HP, because of the high cost of ink cartridges and the low number of pages yielded/refill.
If I remember correctly, at the time I purchased the Epson Tank printer they were the "First on the Block" with the "Tank System".
Thanks to your advice I will continue to avoid after-market third-party ink.
I first chose their "Brand Name" ink when I realized that their own "Black" ink was linked to specific Epson Tank Printers. That was a Red flag for me.
I wish you well . . . .

No problem Jimmy. I got over it long ago. I ended giving the printer to some crab fishermen who might have used it for an anchor. Bob

Hi,
I have just purchased and installed a Epsom XP-970 and print quality is fantastic I will only use Epsom inks from now on as after market inks have caused my Stylus 1410 to fail (blocked nozzles) and cannot be cleaned
The Eco tank models whilst being more expensive up front and the ink reasonably priced I found the build quality to be not as good as the 970
Based on my usage (a maximum 6 images per month) the 970 appears to be the better choice

I'm not going to suggest one brand over the other since all brands seem to make printers that make beautiful prints. However, I will suggest that you should take a long look at the megatank printers. The upfront cost is greater but the reduced cost for ink makes these printers worth a second look.
