I guess I don’t understand value, why pray tell does having a box to accompany the lens/camera increase the value?
Don’t second guess your deal; enjoy the lens. The value of the lens is what you can sell it for today.
On the used market the box certainly wouldn't be of the same value. Here's quickly what happened.
The 24-120 lens I originally got that matched it's original box, I found was not new, it had been used. Likely returned for whatever reason. I complained and demanded another lens. To get a new lens in box would've cost me full price and they didn't have another in stock so would have to order it. They offered to give me a 24-120 kit lens from a D850 package. The lens like this came in at 40% of it's full price. I said fine, I'll lose the box for a 60% saving. After a little more discussion, I talked them into giving me the box that came with the lens I returned. They gave in, I got a box as well and the only issue is the lens serial and box serial don't match.
If I took a boxed lens, they would have had to charge 60% more.

I purchased a used Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8E ED VR lens yesterday from a local camera store. The sales rep said the lens was a display unit that sat in a large behind the counter display case in another one of their stores. Cosmetically the lens is spotless both externally and internally; absolutely no dust. The sales rep said they couldn't sell it as new because the box and accompanying paper work and other content had been lost but for all intents and purposes, it's a brand new lens. It certainly looks brand new. Anyway, I paid $1500 for the lens and was wondering if I got a good deal. I know they retail for up to $2100, but that's with the box and other materials and factory warranty. I'm not concerned much about the warranty because I've never had issues with any of my Nikkor lenses. The lens did come with both caps and the hood.

It appears then the only way to know if you Truly have a 'good deal' is to compare boxes! Of course you have to take into consideration the complimentary hood and lens caps.....

Are you asking for our opinion or are you just making a statement? I am confused.
Keep your receipt, Nikon lens come with a five year warranty. With the receipt you can still get coverage at Nikon.
I know it's "only" a Tamron but I got a brand new 24-70 2.8 G2 with all the goodies for $1200. I also have 3 other Tamron that work exceptionally well.

I'm pretty sure the complimentary hood and caps were included in the cost of the lens.

Judging from your numerous locations, I can understand why you may be confused.
