The attachments and reports that I've read from your posts read like a Stephen King book. I'm not touching Windows 11 until I have to.

The changes are mostly "under the hood." The screens look more "apple like" in that they have rounded boxes and they also have subdued colors for now. The changes are in the chip set reads. The memory will be either DDR4 or 5 in new computers that have security features not on current DDR 3. It will also have much larger capacity. There is a TPM setting in the BIOS that must show 2.0 setting engaged. Microsoft has a program you can run that will "tell you if your system will work with Windows 11 so get it, down load and run. If it says you are a go well I guess you have to hope Microsoft got this one right on first try.

After the disaster of Win 10 I am firmly off Microsoft apps! I ran XP till I could not go any where and that is a shame for it was much better than Win 10. Now I am attempting to learn the "ins and outs" of the Linux boys. They have a helpful web page that shames Microsoft. For doing XP in nothing would please me more than to see gates and his empire be broken up by Uncle Sam.

Well this is what happens with anything really when a monopoly exists. They really become the only game in town.

I'm not concerned about whether Win 10 will continue to run past the year 2025. The concern for no support is that Microsoft will stop plugging security holes in Win 10 after 2025.

I have Win 7 and even now, Microsoft STILL continues to plug security holes for it... I received another security update just a few days ago. Of course I expect the updates to eventually stop coming. Perhaps this was the last one. But I'm about due for a new computer anyway, so I'm not really worried about that.

I am potentially interested, but a new gaming computer bought this summer fails the test. Store told me yesterday they had sold out of that model and no one else had even asked the question. May or may not he fixable with a change in BIOS settings.
As I have read, 11 is strictly 64 bit, so if you have 32 bit software or a 32 bit version installed, it won't work. If this is not correct, please correct me. If true that would be my real worry, as while I always choose 64 bit, I don't know what I might have that isn't. Certainly on this site people often mention old stuff they like and use.

Problem with not upgrading is at present Microsoft plans to stop supporting 10, no security updates, in just few yrs as store confirmed.

This update stuff is getting ridiculous, last night I looked into getting Paramount+. Found it only works on smart TVs and for many brands only those made in maybe last 5 yrs. I have no intention of relacing every tv, monitor, computer, phone etc. every 5 yrs or even sooner because firms decide it's a great way to make money.

Microsoft’s end of support for Win 10 is 2024, so you have a while to decide. And even then, if you use 3rd party virus/malware protection it should be plenty usable. The issue will ultimately be compatibility with new SW and peripherals, but I will worry about then when it becomes an issue.

I still use Win XP on some machines. All the apps still work like they used to except.. web browers. All web browers have some problems including Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox.

Being an old f**t, I'm still running Windows 7 Home Premium. I tried Windows 10, but it slowed my PC down too much, so I went back. While MS no longer will support it, as long as it keeps being adequate, I will stay with it. Some of the latest programs (apps) won't run on it including most Adobe current photo programs, but I'm not interested in them at this time. I do still use Photoshop 7!

I dislike the fact that MS makes new operating systems incompatible with older software. I lost count of how many versions of Office I've bought over the years. Worse, on previous Op System updates I've lost my NIC, scanner, and PC camera drivers making the hardware unusable. So I resist all updates I can.

Paramount and Paramount plus are not the same. I get the former already on DISH. It specifically states only certain models of certain makers support plus. As I said this gets beyond my knowledge. We do not stream much due to capacity limits with DISH and Hughes net. From my checking Starnet will be no better or cheaper. No other option and none likely for a long time, we are in the last mile of the last mile world.

From what I read it appears that plus will require android on the TV, don't know about IOS. Seems to be more for phones and tablets, etc., the newer world of entertainment. But plus is where all the new Startrek stuff is.

Yep, that is the problem with old XP machines - hard to find a browser that will support modern security protocols AND work on XP. Last year I assembled an XP (SP3) machine with ISA slots specifically to use a couple of legacy cards for a specific application (satellite antenna control). I tried every new and old release of Chrome, Firefox and IE and could not find a browser that would access https sites so I could download updated Keplarian elements from the web. I ended up scraping the machine and building a different rotor control interface that would run Win10 SW.

Ran into the same issue with slots and interface cards to instruments costing $60,000 and up at work. Companies would sent out notices telling you to buy a spare computer as new designs no good. People also rebuilt systems from scratch, most were independent and not connected to web so no security issues. Before PCs instruments had proprietary computers so repairs were often expensive, but instruments often provided service for decades (Somethings don't need improvement or redevelopment even in research), after PCs complete working systems costing $100,000 became useless do to broken computers, monitors, even keyboards.
Finally, because such funding was not generally available, good equipment was replaced in anticipation of such issues when funding was available. Either way the tax payer would see it as a waste of money, but the alternative was to see research stopped if failure occurred and no funding was there, almost certainly the case early to mid-year. Imagine being told your medical results wouldn't be available until funding, etc. was available in maybe 8-10 months at best.

As an admitted geek, I wasn't able to resist upgrading one of my machines (a DIY build) from Win10 to Win11 on the first day, Oct. 5th. After discovering no problems and learning a few different ways things work and look, the next day I upgraded four other machines, a second DIY box, two miniature fan-less boxes and a brand new Dell 2n1 laptop. No problems with any of the upgrades. My subscription Photoshop and Lightroom and Topaz DeNoise AI and Sharpen AI plugins as well as PTGui and Helicon Focus continue to work properly just as before. Note: I'm fairly certain that contributing to these successful upgrades is the fact that these former Win10 machines have always been promptly updated and I'm VERY careful about what I download and install on them.

I haven't noticed any issues with anything I've been using, including Adobe products.
