The tool for quartering apples (or, more commonly, eighth-ing them) has "spokes" and a center tube that cuts out the core. The one pictured here is for chopping nuts and vegetables, and can be used on a flat surface or a bowl.

Some sort of hand chopper, my mother's kitchen had one, never saw it used.

It's a chopper the red end is a handle. My grandmother used one to chop walnuts. If I remember right it came with a bowl kind of like a mortar and pestle

what he said, used to chop all kinds of nuts, especially butternuts and walnuts for baking... First hand experience in Gram's kitchen. Also used to cut potatoes into hashbrowns...

My wife picked this up decades ago at a garage sale for a quarter. Had no idea what it was, it just looked unusual. Does anyone know what it is, or was used for?

My Mother had when I was growing up, she sometimes used it to mash potato's by hand.

I wanted a Harley chopper as a teenager, my Mom gave me one like that........then laughed till she had to sit down

course it's LOL funny to me now........

and I kept her gift.........paybacks........

then she bought one of those that had a container and rotates every time you push the spring loaded handle,

a great improvement, then I took that one.........

and I'm still laughing........she's gone now but I have plenty more of those warm and fuzzies
