I have the 25-105 f4 lens in both the EF Mount and the RF mount. It’s an excellent lens

On reason could be allocation. Sellers only get so many at a time.

IIRC Canon no longer makes SLR gear, so it prolly takes a lotta scrounging around and swapping to get a few popular items into inventory.

There isn't (won't) be an RF to M adapter. The issue is due to the 18mm 'flange distance' of the RF mount, where the rear of a RF lens sits 18mm from the sensor, while the M-mount is designed for lenses to be 20mm from the sensor. Even if a 2mm solution and all the electronics was developed, moving the RF lens 2mm further away from the sensor causes the RF lens to lose the ability to focus to infinity.

Canon has tried to avoid the alphabet soup of lens and mount differences ala Nikon. We're watching to see if they retain the M-mount exclusively for cropped mirrorless bodies. Or, they retire the M series and develop cropped sensors in the EOS R line. There's speculation but not even any rumors coming out of Canon on their exact direction / decision.

Well, it sounds like the best solution is to buy the r5, or the r3 if it comes out soon. That of course is out of my price range at the moment. But will see what happens. The m6 mark ii is a good camera, but I would like to have good lenses for it. Thanks for the info, Canon. This is very much appreciated.

Yeah, I thought it would be. I just hate loosing any data even on the outer width that would happen with a converter. But maybe that wouldn't be as bad as I think it is.

Two comments: 1. I bought a lens last year from B&H that was "backordered." I paid for it up front to lock in a sale prices. I received it in 2-3 weeks but it never went off "backorder" so I assume those who wait listed it never got one.

Before buying the EF 24-105 II, check pro reviews and not just Ken Rockwell who says every lens is great. I like Dustin Abbott among others. I got this lens years ago with a 5D IV and I was disappointed. It fell well short of the other L lenses I already owned. Had I read the reviews ahead of time, I wouldn't have bought it. After 6 months, I replaced it with a 24-70 2.8 II. Recently, I bought an RP plus 24-105 4L as a light weight combo for hiking and climbing. My initial impressions are very favorable. The combo produces beautiful color and the AF performance is excellent. Images also have an appealing 3D look. It is not quite as sharp as the 24-70 but it is sharp enough for most situations.

The Canon site had it refurbished when I went looking for the exact title. Canon is very quickly discontinuing their EF lenses for RF models, seemingly as soon as the corresponding RF lens is released.

I just looked at the Canon website and they are offering that lens for $1099. There is no mention of discountinuing that lens.

That's nice, but not relevant to the actual model being discussed and identified as discontinued ...

I am sure you know that you need an adapter for that lens to use on the m6 Mkii. A nice lens for it is the efm 18-150mm. It is a great walk around lens.

Those 24-105mm and 24-70mm lenses aren't made for an M6 Mark II.

They are made for full frame DSLRs, will need an adapter to fit onto an M6II and will be ridiculously unbalanced and "nose heavy" on it.

Get a Canon EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM. That's designed to fit directly to the M-series cameras and is a much better size/weight match for your camera.

There are very few third party autofocus lenses for M-series cameras.

Sigma makes three lenses that fit M-series, but none are zooms: 16mm, 30mm and 56mm.

Viltrox also makes trio of primes for M-series: 23mm, 33mm and 56mm.

Tamron makes an 18-200mm.

I think that is a different camera, but I need to research it to be sure. Sometimes adds and things are confusing. My camera is the M6 mark ii. I think that is different than the 6D but maybe not.

It was advertised as a mirrorless camera.

The full frame DSLR is the EOS 6D, both the original and mark II, using only EF-mount lenses.

The cropped-sensor mirrorless is the EOS M6, both the original and mark II, using M-mount lenses natively or EF / EF-S lenses via an separately sold adapter.

You're right... I saw my mistake and corrected it immediately... just not fast enough for a couple of you.

Here is a complete list of all autofocus lenses that are made to fit your M6II:

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/products/Mirrorless-Camera-Lenses/ci/17912/N/4196380428?filters=fct_brand_name%3Acanon%7Csigma%7Ctamron%7Cviltrox%2Cfct_lens-mount_3442%3Acanon-ef-m%2Cfct_lenses-kits_7315%3Alenses-only

I recently got the Sigma 56mm for use on my M-series camera. It is a very nicely made lens that seems to have pretty good performance, but I've just started using it. Of the other lenses on the above list, I use the Canon EF-M 22mm... but none of the others (I have several manual focus only lenses for my M5).

I have a few Viltrox lenses, adapters and speed booster and they have never given me any problems at all. I use a Viltrox EF to EF-M adapter on both my Canon M mount bodies and they work quite well indeed. The speed booster is also pretty cool. It basically makes an APS-C cameras images look like full frame. In my oh so humble opinion, for the money, you can't go wrong with Viltrox adapters, converters and speed boosters.

Thanks

Yes, I understood my camera to be a mirrorless.

You have me confused. Why is it not relevent? This is the model referenced by the OP. (Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM Lens (B&H # CA241054LIS2) which is the one I was looking at on the Canon website. (https://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/en/catalog/ef-24-105mm-f-4l-is-ii-usm)
