Beautiful photo, and sorry for your problems.

Side note: phone cameras are a lot better than many give them credit for being. I just won third place in a state-wide show (with over a thousand entries) with a photo taken with my iPhone 8+ and edited in an old version of Lightroom.

Your photo is amazing! And so are you! .My Samsung Galaxy S10 is excellent, also. And it takes wonderful videos which I'm sure your IPhone does, too. You have a whole new world to explore and master. Go for it, wise Lady!

Hello fellow hoggers. Over a year ago I had a operation in a very tender and personal area. My biggest mistake was I trusted a general surgeon then to go to one that specializes in the area only. The general surgeon screwed me up and I have now been to see two specialist that both agreed that the operation should have never been performed on me. It has left me that now for almost 2 years I can not carry my camera nor can I walk a long time or take the time to sit at my computer and edit my photos. So my husband said how about replacing your older IPhone with the new 12 Pro. I know it is not of the quality of my Canon cameras I have 4 of them nor any of the lenses I have. But at this time the phone is light and I can edit my pictures in Snapseed on my IPad at least. I gave away my 7d as that one was the heaviest and I know I will never use it again. I just hope the young man I gave it to will have much joy with it. I am keeping all the rest for now as the specialist (both) have ok me to see a Pain and Spine Specialist who has a shot that might help block my pain. So two things I am trying to share with this post. First the new phones with the better cameras are good. Second please unless it’s a wart don’t trust a general surgeon for surgery that a specialist should be doing. This photo I took with my new iPhone 12pro of the Ravenal Bridge in Charleston, SC when I went to MUSC to see the specialist.

I am very pleased with the photos I get from my iPhone 11Pro - and I understand that the 12 is even better! Some days I decide to just use my iPhone instead of taking my DSLR. The convenience of just taking it out of my pocket and not worrying about aperture, shutter speed, ISO - and just "focusing" on composition - is pretty convincing.

Sorry to hear of your ordeal. I have often encouraged patients to get a second opinion before they have surgery - any good surgeon would also encourage you to do that. They would prefer that the patient be confident that they have made the right decision before they go into surgery. In "the old days" general surgeons did everything. Surgical specialists were limited (ortho, neuro, OB). Choosing a surgeon can be complicated. Spine surgery, for example, is done by both neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons. Thirty years ago some general orthopedists did spine surgery. Those days (hopefully) are gone. Orthopedists can now do a spine surgery fellowship to develop the skills to concentrate on spine surgery. But it is a similar issue with neurosurgeons - they traditionally do spine surgery - but they also do carpal tunnel surgery, brain tumor surgery, etc. So, they may be very good at spine surgery, but it is not all that they do. I recently needed neck surgery and searched online the neurosurgeons in the region and found a few who had done fellowship training in "complex spine surgery". That is all they do, and they are specially trained for that. The one I chose, for example, spent two years after his neurosurgery residency at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix just learning spine surgery. This is a place where they try to put people back together after horrific crashes, gunshot wounds, etc. Even the nurses on the day after surgery all told me that this was the surgeon they would go to if needed. "He has real finesse in the operating room" one told me. Finesse is a good thing when they are operating on your spine... Good luck with pain management.

Nice shot. I’m looking at the 12 pro. Probably make the jump in the next couple days. Your photo is helping in the decision

Hopefully the docs will come up with a solution to your problems

So sorry to hear about your medical issues and the pain you are in. Great shot, it’s about the person behind the camera that makes the photo into art. You are quite an artist. Keep on shooting!

I hope you find relief from your pain and once again able to enjoy the things you love. I bought the iPhone 12, not the Pro, as an upgrade from my iPhone 7. After seeing some excellent photos from the Pro, I’m sorry I didn’t spend a few dollars more. The best camera is the one you have with you. Once you learn all of the capabilities of your iPhone, you won’t look back. Except for extreme telephoto, it should do everything your DSLRs do, and may be even better in low light situations. With a tripod and remote trigger, you’ll get great shots.

Nice to have the 12 though if you would have waited a few more weeks (?) of course Apple will be out with the 13MaxPro, of course. Since you are pursuing photo work with the 12, you might consider looking into Moment lens and some tripod options. Or maybe a gimbal if videos appeal to you.

Sorry to hear about all the issues you have had with your surgery - bad enough you needed the surgery at all (although it sounds like you may have been talked into an unnecessary surgery and, if I were the cynical type, I might think that there was a money component to that advise) but to then have it botched besides is really miserable. Anyway, I have seen some really compelling photography done with a variety of iPhones, up through and including your version. For images that are shared on line in any of the social media platforms it is next to impossible to separate those images from ones taken with higher end “proper” cameras. So you have a perfect solution for yourself right now - and don’t be surprised once you are again able to use your Canon cameras that you find yourself opting to just travel light and going with the iPhone. By the way, Snapseed is a great APP - you might also consider Lightroom Mobile - I have the paid version with cloud storage (the APP itself is free- but without a subscription lacks a few features that I want) and so that the images sync across my iPhone and iPAD. With my RAW files from any of my cameras my normal work flow now is to pull those files into either my phone or (most often) my iPAD and then I do my edits typically on the iPAD - I much prefer that to working the same files on my laptop.

Beautiful. I received the 12pro for christmas and am still amazed at the quality of the pictures it takes. That it can shoot in raw in an added bonus. I got the best drop proof case I could find for $45.00 from Speck. Cheap insurance.
Keep on shooting. I hope your situation improves. All the best.
