It happened again..! I was laying in bed for the night and I had an aggravating itch on my inner thigh and of course when you have an itch...you have to scratch it.
I thought, "Darn...another chigger!" yet I felt a little something as I scratched and picked at it so I turned on the light and I'll be ...it was a Lone Star Tick. I pulled it off and took it downstairs and put it into a bottle of alcohol for a later session and this is the offending S.O.B. that was sucking on my leg.
Excellent shot, Gary! BTW have you considered a flea and tick collar? (LOL)
Nasty looking dude. Won't go to the download for fear of the itching.
I second the suggestion on a flea and tick collar.
I tried the down load and it's safe, very interesting to. Excellent shot

Thanks, UTMike....actually, that may not be a bad idea. I can put one around each leg.

Thanks, they are quite gruesome looking when viewed under magnification.

Thanks, Tramsey. This is a Lone Star tick which gets its name from the white dot on its back. They are very aggressive compared to other species of ticks in our area.
Oh, Longshadow...I'm on the same page with you on the dislike of ticks and chiggers are my second most hated "itch causer".
Ugly/beautiful. That's all I can say.

What amazes me is just how small their "piercing snout" is and that it can puncture the skin deep enough to draw up blood.

Really nice image. That is one ugly sucker. I've had ticks attach to me twice in my life, they are nasty little buggers.
Do they carry Lime Disease?
