Who can forget the classic scene about the decoder ring from The Christmas Story? Somehow I doubt the messages really sent were quite so disappointing.

I recall many of those offers. I recently came across a similar but different collector's item. I decided to read "Gone With the Wind," a copy of which was in my sister-in-law's home when she passed away. Inside it, apparently used as a book mark, was a double card from Mallow Cups. They were (are?) chocolate covered marshmallow cream shaped very much like a Reese Peanut Butter Cup. They were printed as different monetary denominations like coins, from 1 cent to 1 dollar. If you saved up the equivalent of $5.00 you sent them in and received a free Mallow Cup, which normally cost a nickel back then.

Merchandise included x-ray glasses that you could see thru someone’s clothing. Didn’t work!!

I wish I knew what box it was in. I've got a mint red plastic drinking mug with a blue "Captain Midnight" decal on it as well as an autographed photo of "Captain Midnight" (Richard Webb).I'm sure my wife will throw it in the trash when I bite the dust. If you want to reminisce you can find most of this stuff as well as a lot of other fun things on Etsy (which I just discovered).

I didn’t have a lock box so have my ‘fortune’ (a deed to 1 square inch of land in the Gold fields of the Klondike) was lost forever 🥲. Apparently a harbinger of my financial future.

Oh yeah, I’ve got a square inch of that gold field. I was thinking it was in the Yukon but you’re prolly right. Lost my deed so…

You may be correct, with no deeds we are relying on memory and I may have been wrong twice, but I could be wrong about that tool 😇
