But, if you are correct about the recent study, then then figure can't be trusted.

Another important statistic from 2020 is that Sony sells more mirrorless cameras than the others. Of all the mirrorless cameras sold in 2020, Sony sold just over 5 to Canon's just less than 5 to Nikon's only 1. That's not a winning number for any competitor in a worldwide camera market that has declined by 80% in these past 11-years.

And shortly thereafter selling one.

Jeff Cable said he had to bring all his OWN gear to shoot the Olympics this year... He is blogging daily...

First we would have to define camera. Because most cell phones have cameras and millions more cell phones are sold than any dedicated camera brand we might conclude that the torch indeed has been passed...to the cell phone manufacturers.

I completely agree that stats can mislead. If 100 cameras are sold, and 45 are sold by Manuf A, 20 by manuf B, and 19 sold by manuf C, I fail to see were that is misleading.

Who cares what gear you have, just enjoy the hobby that's what it is all about, to many people are hung up on camera gear, any camera takes photos and most of them are corrected on computer anyway, and another thing are you watching the Olympics or the photographers, I think the Olympics are more interesting.

Sort of like saying...serious painters place emphasis on their art supply quality.
Of course they do...

And this is of interest because?

Well, it wasn't that long ago it would have been Nikon and Canon, Sony wouldn't have been, as it were, "in the picture".

His posts aren’t a spontaneous reaction to something that tickles his funny bone, but boilerplate comments, often off topic, that are repeated word for word over and over.

Many people don't "get" CHG_CANON. I believe his waxing eloquent over the virtues of Canon or Mirrorless vs DSLR are intended to point out how stupid these discussions are. He owns Canon and Sony and is still using a DSLR. He's made many positive comments about Nikon and other brands in SERIOUS photography discussions. He is also a damn good photographer.

Lighten up, people!!

I love my Nikon gear. I believe that I am a decent photographer and spend almost all of my time on the composition. The images from my Nikon are sharp when I want them to be and have blur when the composition ‘needs’ it. What am I missing?

They are misleading if 18 of Sony's 20 percent is because the camera is furnished by Associated Press, most likely because AP cut a lucrative deal by purchasing in volume. Then again, one can always say out of 100 cars/cameras sold, 45 are Chevy/Canon, 20 are Telsa/Sony and 19 are Corvette/Nikon. Just saying ... LOL

Meaningless.

The reason the AP chose Sony is because at the time only they made a camera suitable for professional photojournalism that also excelled at video, (think mirrorless). They got a head start in the mirrorless game but by the end of this year all of the big three will be there.

It was defined. The post was about professional sports photographers. I seriously don’t think any are using cellphone cameras.

"...we might conclude that the torch indeed has been passed...to the cell phone manufacturers..." Thank you for bring clarity to this madness Notorious T.O.D.

Folks the overwhelming majority of imagery currently being shared today is generated by Cell Phones... My iPhone 12 is totally user friendly and certainly well up to the task of lifestyle reportage photography. Cells are ubiquitous and have changed the course of our current cultural awareness to a degree that the dinosaurs we here on UHH use could never in there widest dreams approach.

A single nine minute Cell video of George Floyd's last moments on earth sparked a revolution in awareness that has shaken the very pillars of our society and that of the entire World. No "Camera" image has ever had such profound consequences.

There is no torch to pass... that flame drown in a HUGE tsunami of cell phone Facebook and Instagram imagery.

Folks get off your computers and continue capturing life's wonderful moments...
This junior high school "Brand" bickering is so petty and juvenile... get a life!

btw, no one gives a rat's butt about Olympic still imagery... it's video folks that pays the bills in that paradigm...
