Sunshine Bakers were the originators of the Hydrox cookie years before Nabisco copied them. Nabisco's Oreos are made with high fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors and other garbage ingredients. I don't buy Nabisco products. I can't wait for the Hydrox to become available again as they were all natural before they disappeared.

It looks like your only choice is Amazon. They are not sold in stores. They sell six 13-ounce packages for $28.57. That's $4.76/package, definitely in the higher price range, but I'll get at least one order.

Dunkin' Donuts was founded by William Rosenberg in Quincy, Massachusetts in 1950.

Yes, but I saw my first one in NY. As a kid, I remember thinking. Wow! What a perfect name!

Jerry, I just don't know where you come up with this stuff, but you do. I can add a few facts. In the summer of 1972, I worked for Sunshine Baking company in NYC as a special assistant and a photographer. (After High School and before College). Sunshine, at the time, was the main competitor to National Baking company, better known as NABISCO. Nabisco made OREO and Sunshine made Hydrox along with stuff like Cheez-It (still made and sold but by a different company). Didn't really follow Sunshine after that, but it seems others bought some of their brands. Small world.

Remember Hydrox cookies? They're back. I watched a good video about them on YouTube last night. Two partners had a cookie company, but their crooked lawyer took over their company. They started their own company and developed Hydrox - the original Oreo. The man running their original company developed a cheaper, less natural copy of the Hydrox and called it Oreo. He happened to latch onto an effective ad campaign featuring people twisting off one of the cookies to reveal the cream inside. Oreo took off, the partners from Hydrox both died suddenly, and Hydrox faded.

The brand was bought and sold over the years, and finally, it was dropped. A man started a company called Leaf to bring back a type of lollypop, and then he decided to revive Hydrox. Unfortunately, the company making Oreo - or a related company - messed up the Hydrox displays in stores, hiding them in the back, and that hurt sales of the new product. Then Oreo began calling itself "The Original." If you're wondering about the name, "hyd" is from hydrating, as in water, and "ox" is from oxygen - two things essential for life. "Oreo" comes from the name of the flower used for the design on both Hydrox and Oreos. Yes, the crooked lawyer even used the same flower for the design of his imitation cookie.

Hydrox are available on Amazon, but they're backordered. I'm on the waiting list.

We always preferred Hydrox over Oreos and then there were none! I guess it all falls to not how good your product is, but how well it is marketed. Good to know, and thanks for sharing the information.

Oreos used to be good before they changed the recipe to eliminate those terrible trans-fats...

Before they got rid of the Crisco filling.

That varies by state. Fortunately, we are allowed to dunk in New York. That's why Dunkin' Donuts began here.

[quote=Triplets]Where was Dunkin donuts originated?

And according to my mom, Will Rosenberg started by selling donuts to factory workers in and around Quincy before opening that first restaurant. Oddly enough, Mr. R and my mom shared the same doctor treating obesity. The doc held clinics in North Carolina at NC State or UNC... Can't remember.

Jelly, Please!

Kind of falls in line with the Packard story..you know, about the refusal to cheapen the product and being forced out..

A little bit of additional "anti-Oreo" info. For years, Nabisco had a plant on Rt 208 in Fair Lawn NJ where they made a number of products including Oreos. As a long-time resdient of Fair Lawn, we would sit on our front porch in the summer and get a suger high just from the smell of the cookies being backed.
Well, Mondelez, the corporate parent of Nabisco, decided that it would be better to close the NJ plant as well as one n Georgia and move their operations to Mexico. Their reason for doing this is "They say the decision comes as the company focuses its "U.S. biscuit manufacturing footprint to better meet changing consumer needs and growth opportunities." So as of Friday, July 16, your cherished Oreos are now made alongside nachos somewhere in Mexico. And to add insult to injury, 600 former Nabisco employees are now without a job.
