Remember Hydrox cookies? They're back. I watched a good video about them on YouTube last night. Two partners had a cookie company, but their crooked lawyer took over their company. They started their own company and developed Hydrox - the original Oreo. The man running their original company developed a cheaper, less natural copy of the Hydrox and called it Oreo. He happened to latch onto an effective ad campaign featuring people twisting off one of the cookies to reveal the cream inside. Oreo took off, the partners from Hydrox both died suddenly, and Hydrox faded.

The brand was bought and sold over the years, and finally, it was dropped. A man started a company called Leaf to bring back a type of lollypop, and then he decided to revive Hydrox. Unfortunately, the company making Oreo - or a related company - messed up the Hydrox displays in stores, hiding them in the back, and that hurt sales of the new product. Then Oreo began calling itself "The Original." If you're wondering about the name, "hyd" is from hydrating, as in water, and "ox" is from oxygen - two things essential for life. "Oreo" comes from the name of the flower used for the design on both Hydrox and Oreos. Yes, the crooked lawyer even used the same flower for the design of his imitation cookie.

Hydrox are available on Amazon, but they're backordered. I'm on the waiting list.

Isn't there a law about having to dip them in milk before eating them?

That varies by state. Fortunately, we are allowed to dunk in New York. That's why Dunkin' Donuts began here.

Sunshine Bakers were the originators of the Hydrox cookie years before Nabisco copied them. Nabisco's Oreos are made with high fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors and other garbage ingredients. I don't buy Nabisco products. I can't wait for the Hydrox to become available again as they were all natural before they disappeared.

Not a problem, but it does beg the legality of taking them apart and stacking two together, minus two of the cookie halves!

Dunkin' Donuts was founded by William Rosenberg in Quincy, Massachusetts in 1950.

The name "Hydrox" derives from HYDRogen + OXygen, the formula for the water molecule, symbolizing "purity."

And on that note (purity), Hydrox was kosher, whereas Oreo was made with lard.

That was true but they stopped making them a few years ago.

Oreos used to be good before they changed the recipe to eliminate those terrible trans-fats...

Perhaps briefly during recipe changes. Their website doesn't note any interruptions:
"After we acquired Hydrox® in 2015, we rolled back the formula to GET RID of the high fructose corn syrup, replacing it with REAL cane sugar and removed the hydrogenated oils as well. In addition, as of February 2017, we also wanted to create a 'cleaner label' for our customers so we got rid of all artificial flavors and GMOs so Hydrox is now non-GMO as well! You can enjoy 'America's original sandwich cookie', Hydrox® made in the USA and know what's in it. We're kinda proud of that!"

Where was Dunkin donuts originated?
Quincy, Massachusetts
The First Dunkin' Donuts Restaurant is Still in Operation: When founder William Rosenberg opened his first coffee and donut shop in Quincy, Massachusetts in 1948, it was originally named Open Kettle and served coffee, pastries and sandwiches.J

I always thought Oreo’s were significantly inferior to Hydrox. I’m happy to hear owner of Hydrox is making an effort again to market their product. Hope they succeed!

For the Hydrox vs Oreo hysteria buffs, the series “The Food That Built America” should be on your TV viewing list. They were originally broadcast by the History channel and now available On Demand via your favorite provider. As for donuts, as an ex Conn resident with a work parking spot within 15 feet of a D’n’D and a daily frequenter (usu coffee, donuts once a week), I can say with authority that Lamar’s beats them with a stick. Your tastes may be different. 🥴

Amazing! For once, the commercial market returns to an old product vastly superior to the present one. We only eat Oreos as a to keep our memories of a good cookie (Hydrox) alive. Better design on the outside of the cookie, too.
