I had almost forgot how many gun nuts this photography sight has. There must be a sight where they can discuss how big their guns are?

Yes, there sites that talk about guns. The OP presented the subject and people commented on it. You set your bias by using the term "Gun Nuts". I am not a Gun Nut but I own hand guns and have a concealed carry permit. I am aware enough to recognize when and where threats exist and I react accordingly. I respect and understand your feelings about gun owners, please have the common courtesy to respect mine.

The gist of the post by the OP (me) was the preponderance of bears in the vicinity of this golf course in Montana resulting in the necessity of including a can of bear spray in each golf cart.

In attempting to end with a bit of levity, the OP, who stated he was not a gun person, figured a very large caliber hand gun would do a bit more damage than a can of bear spray (rather large hole). The OP regrets the statement, but realizes the conversation could have taken an even worse turn...'nuff said.

If the bear spray doesn't work, you're bear dinner. Now, a 375 H&H will most assuredly keep you alive, although you'll very probably need shoulder surgery.

Edward Abbey was known to say something like: If tourists continue to invade Griz's territory then we have to expect he will harvest an occasional tourist. I'm out of this discussion. Sleep well all and remember "The Night of the Grizzly."

Not always. Leah Davis Lokan was sleeping in her tent outside Ovando, MT when a grizzly dragged her out and killed her.

If I were to go roaming the mountains in western Montana a guide gun would be my companion.

It should be noted that those who carry firearms aren’t doing the so to be able to shoot any grizzly they meet. They are carrying to protect themselves against a grizzly that does not mind is own business.

You need to determine the type of bear. A Black Bear is seldom interested in bothering you. A Grizzly Bear on the other is a different story. Grizzlies are unpredictable and sometimes downright mean. Oh and then too at time see you as a meal.
